Too complicated, you gotta buy the needles once in a while, plus, the records dont last forever . And you know it, and me liking my stuff, I like playing it all the time. Mp3 is the easist thing, you can record to CD-R and can listen to it anywhere.

I don't have the money to buy a car right now, so how about I come and steal your car, cuz ya know there's all that maintenence you have to do on 'em, so it's just easier to just steal one, then get another later, and another...

It actually exploded back around 1993 first.

No, the RIAA sued MP3.com over their "MyMP3.com" service, which allowed you to stream commercially available music to any computer you logged into via an account where you PROVED YOU OWNED THE RIGHTS to the music by verfiying what you could accees by inserting a CD into your computer. You could NOT access anything else you didn't prove you had already purchased. Artists bypassing record lables had NOTHING to do with the lawsuit.

I can understand both sides cases on that issue.

Well, when you really love and like a tune, you will want the full rip, sometimes impossible because they arent just released, but only available in the only one CD that somehow, got its hands on that so much loved song. That examply fits best for Jose Amnesia - The Eternal back in 1999 when it was only on that gatecrasher cd, and on PvDs muzik mix CD, and some PvD livesets.

No, not really. I can just wait until it's released on vinyl. If it's not, oh well... there'll be other tunes for me to spin!

I dont regret buying this IMPORT CD's that I mentioned, just because they were on sale at the time, otherwise, I wouldnt have SPEND almost 50 bucks ! ( CDNOW ) . The nearest store that contains this CD's is like 1 hour far, not including traffic and so on .. and selling them for 40 .. if I include gas it would go up to .. almost 50 anyways, with tax and so on . Do the math. And I will say it again, when I can afford for them quality CD's, I will not think twice on getting them, but I will not dig and bankrup my parents for doing so, and I think many here think the same.

Well, it sounds like you're either exaggerating or getting screwed, one of the two. Most of the Trancemaster comps only cost me $19.99+tax at my local shop (the one I now work at.)

Yeah, its a stupid game, but the thing is, we consumers, at times like now, dont have the luxury to spend that much money on something thats suppost to cost like 5 - 6 dollars . YES ! .. a CD costs like 10 cents to make ! .. at most 1 dollar.

Well, did ya know that a gallon gasoline only costs a company something like 3 cents to produce? So why don't you also go out and steal some gas while you're at it? It only costs pennies to make a burger at a fast food joint, so why don't ya try to talk them down the next time you're at McDonalds.

Or better yet, once ya get out of school and have a nice degree, why don't ya work for minimum wage because someone doesn't feel your labor is worth it? How about starting up a company and selling your products for a nickel over their production costs? Lets see how'd you feel about that?

Good point. Since they're all from 3+ years ago, it's probably best to delete them now since I haven't listened to them in years.

I agree with you on this... there's no point in really continuing this arguement anyway because there's no such thing as "winning". Our beliefs and opinions aren't going to be changed and I'm sure neither are mr. Maytags...

It sure is nice of him to offer to sell us some vinyls from HIS store though

This is getting fucking ridiculous. Comparing stealing cars and downloading mp3s? FFS.

So I spend my hard-earned money on school and rent and food. Apparently I should not be afforded the right to listen to trance music (or any music for that matter) because I cannot afford to support the artists. I can only afford Ramen and Mac N' Cheese, and sometimes when I'm lucky, I can eat an extra value meal at McDonalds or order a pizza. When I can afford it, I make trips to see DJs throughout the midwest. My priorities are obviously quite out of line. I'm a criminal.

I never realised how much a person could suck, you make it sound like we should all be locked up for it, if downloading music is a crime, so is being charged ott for cds and tapes and everything, works both ways, they make them cheaper, we get to buy more

how can you be apart of an online community like this and have that view point of mp3s. this entire site is based on music that people get off the web. i mean its unTAish. not everyone can get the promo releases of every tune that comes out and clearly with all the kids in these forums...i mean they would have to save up their allowance for a year to buy one batch of records. its not like we are all djs here that play at clubs..then that might be a problem, but still you suck man.

Wasn't this thread initially meant for dreaming about which tracks would be nice if released? Dreaming isn't wrong. I haven't seen any unreleased track (meaning the musical piece, not the name of the track) posted here, and you may be the only one who ever expected such a thing might happen here.

I've seen several posts talking about, how someone has it a certain track and they say for an individual to PM them. Odd are they are sharing the files.

I also informed someone that I could get them the tracks they were looking for, but they politely declined stating that they didn't want to pay for it, but would rather acquire the track for free.

Besides, I'm completely against DJ mixes or mixed compilations as a way of preserving trance heritage. They put the tracks in a context which is not what the producer intended. Imagine if the only copy of a M.I.K.E. production was preserved as part of a DJ Jean set. Would a later scholar or music enthusiast draw the right kind of conclusions?

So DJ Jean's interpretation isn't valid as an art form? It sounds like you're completely disregarding the importance of the DJ to trance history?

AFAIK, producers WANT DJ's to mix their tunes so the become more well known. I've never heard of a producer tell a DJ not to mix his songs in a certain way, and I've never heard a producer cringe at the idea of a well known DJ playing their tune...

I really meant Dancegrooves, Allstars and Rockhouse, which act as shops with direct links to distributors.

Um, and my shop isn't? That's what record stores do, they buy from distributors or in some cases the labels directly. What's the difference between my shop and Dancegrooves?

So you are not against mp3 sharing if there's a charge? If someone buys a little-known vinyl, rips it, and distributes it to say five persons, doesn't the cost of vinyl pay for subscription?

I would have no problem if there was a charge, if the system was set up to distribute the money back to the artists, just like as if someone was buying a CD or record at a store.

I'm also not against non-commercial liveset sharing either, fee or not. I don't understannd how the context DJ's put the music can be overlooked since it's almost impossible to find any tunes that aren't mixed. When was the last time you went to a club and heard a DJ play individual songs without mixing? (Scott Bond's show in Colorodo doesn't count...) Since trance is largely BASED upon the context that the DJ puts different songs into, you alomst would think it'd be MORE important to find songs that were mixed!

I've worked at the university, so I act based on reason, not based on justifications. You now have an opportunity to convince me by numerical facts and good arguments that the losses arising from a historical trance mp3 archive outweigh the gains.

If it was a pay-for-use system or based on a subscription (both at a reasonable fee) where the money would go back to the artists and labels, then I'd have absolutley ZERO problem with a trance archive.

It takes a drastic analogy to get it thru some ppl's heads that what they're doing is just as illegal.

So you you resort to stealing when you can't afford other things in life?

Well, give me more info about your record store . Let me know the prices for Gatecrasher Wet , and Ibiza Euhporia. Thats a pretty cheap priced for an import, but Im guessing you are selling it USED ! ?

And well, theres no point on keeping on discussing this issue with you, you got your opinion, and I got my opinion. mp3 is not at all illegal, if it was, then there shouldnt be any softwares making this posible, including all the biggest corps. ( windows, real, so on .. ) .
But whatever, maybe your record store is in lack of demand, which could be the possible response for you to come up with all this, and you probably make your living selling records, and playing them. But, its only you .. but, I respect your opinion. One thing, you wont change nobodys way of thinking.
