Yesterday, I was ringing up a couple of people at work. This lady brings her cart to the end of my line and just leaves it there and walks away. This couple comes up behind the cart, looks around and looks at me confused. I'm still ringing another order so I just look at them and shrug. The lady comes back, apologizes and said she just ran to the pharmacy to pick up her prescription. She offers to let the couple go in front of her. They politely decline and start to carry on a conversation with her.
I ring up her groceries and get to the last item. Right as I was about to hit total, she looks back at the couples groceries and goes, "Oh, I'll pay for theirs." The couple was floored, and I was just as confused. They tried their hardest to decline but she wouldn't take no for an answer. That was the only time they'd ever met and she bought them $100 worth of groceries on the basis that it was a "random act of kindness."
For those five short minutes, my faith in society was restored. Unfortunately, the three hours following that totally crushed any and all faith I had. |
hot shit, i wish someone would pay my grocery bills
