I ring up her groceries and get to the last item. Right as I was about to hit total, she looks back at the couples groceries and goes, "Oh, I'll pay for theirs." The couple was floored, and I was just as confused. They tried their hardest to decline but she wouldn't take no for an answer. That was the only time they'd ever met and she bought them $100 worth of groceries on the basis that it was a "random act of kindness."
For those five short minutes, my faith in society was restored. Unfortunately, the three hours following that totally crushed any and all faith I had. |
