There are plenty of pro-war "liberals" and there are plenty of gay "conservatives" and gay-friendly "conservatives". Just goes to show that you can't really pigeon hole anybody these days! In the end, one issue is just one issue, and it's degree of importance is a subjective issue to be determined by the individual. i.e. Some things mean more to some people than they do to others.

Yes that is why labeling a person sucks. Because just when you think you got them figured out they throw in a view that completely contradicts the label.

I also am not a fan of throwing the ideologies around to degrade one side or the other. Its hard not to do, but I think it makes an argument more legitimate when you leave ideology out and just argue from a personal perspective.

I would also like to point out that your definition of conservative is more liberatarian. I know you probably would rather shoot yourself than be nailed with that label. But its a fact.

I ain't even going to touch the Iraq debate and its correlation to freedom. That will degrade this whole thread into more bullshit.

It's true that many conservatives tend to be pro-Iraq war and tend to believe in the sanctity of traditional marriage as an institution. The way you worded your phrase was as if to say "conservatives are war-mongering homophobic bigots." I give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that's not what you meant. There are many prominent (republican) conservatives that are anti-Iraq war (ie Pat Buchanan) and pro-gay marriage (Dick Cheney).

It's true that the conservatism I adhere to would be a pro-libertarian, pro-capitalist ideology.
