actually all edm is formulaeic in that respect, it all follows the same basis of progression, true there are a lot of variations between those elements but they all contain them.

Trance built a village... and the hunters rejoiced.
The village turned into a town, with the introduction of agricultre the forest was cut down so the hunters left.

The hunters moved to a new village called Progressive where they once again revelled in the hunt. Then the village grew into a town and the hunters left once more.

Then the hunters were not sure where to go. There were no more large forests to hunt in, so they lurked at the edge of town and cursed the townsfolk for chopping down all their trees and chasing away all their game.

The hunters were only comfortable hunting game.

And the hunters said "please leave us a forest to hunt in in peace... wherever we hunt you arrive a few years later and build a town destroying our fun."

And the man came down to them and said "where the best game lives, so will the best crops grow... we follow you because you lead the way. This is the way of things."

And the hunters understood that their role was to find the best places to build towns, so they looked at the towns they had given birth to with a new sense of pride. Perhaps some of them were a little gaudy, perhaps some of them were a little decadent but all of them were now filled with people dancing and that's what they liked the best in the end.

prog gone formulaeic? welcome to edm u dumb twats, all EDM is formulaeic, intro, main verse, outro... at its simplest

and dreamy sounding reverbed synths? hell yes and u know why? cos when u hear them u get that funny little feeling in your stomach which makes u happy and feel euphoric, THAT is why people use them, THAT is why people like them!

personally id like to hear the prog sound go both deeper and more uplifting into two seperate sub genres, cos i think that prog has a lot of life in it.

as for markus and armin killing prog, whats your problem? would you have even heard of it if it wasnt for them? simple answer... NO.

its idiots like the fools who bitch on this thread that kill the fucking scene, so once again shove ur mc prog label up ur arse and kindly fuck off back to your cyberkiddies munching 20 pills a night destroying their braincells and listening to music which is too fast to dance to for more than 30 seconds, leave the decent music to the people who understand/deserve it

And so does most other music. You're going to have to find something more specific than intro/main verse/outro to call a certain music formulaic...

You seem to have completely missed the fact that most of the people that bash "mcprog" aren't the above & beyond epic trance heads, but the sasha&digweed progressive fans (such as myself). Not that you have any argument there, that's just a bunch of insults and points made already. As for "deeper prog" and "uplifting prog" (mcprog) going separate, i think that's what's starting to happen now and what this thread shows, two different bunches of prog fans.

i didnt miss the point at all, a lot of the people bashing the music are sasha fans etc (wow isnt that prog house?) but a lot are also harder music fans, and yes my above and beyond comment was OTT but nevermind eh! mc prog as you all want to call it is more prog trance imo which would explain the rift between the two sets of prog fans

seriously though as the one stating that all prog is formulaeic it should actually be upto you to prove that it is and that others arent, not me to prove that all forms are

progressive trance?

it's really fucking sad if progressive trance has evolved from Sasha GU 13 to "McProg"

let's just try and think of a better name for Markus Schultz style music than McProg... maybe then fans of it will be less insulted by their fav music being called a less silly name

any suggestions?
