You're kind of right, and kind of not. It depends really... Trance has a vast array of subgenre's/styles that the unedumacated & unfamiliar say "all sound the same". Not true, although down to semantics ultimately (depth of knowledge of the genre).
I say- find your niche, stick your head down and go for it. What I'd really like to see is more people in Melbourne/Australia getting into performing edm hybrids live. Blending traditional & Innovative trance sounds with live vocals, acoustic & organic instruments, improvised arrangements, and live synthesised fx.
Result: You still have real trance, but with an inherently different sound/vibe and vastly broader appeal to live music enthusiasts!
Where is the problem with that? Lack of time, dedication, and passion?
