I have found all of the recent news footage to be really unsettling but totally addictive.

Last night the women in the houses being raided complained of racist treatment because the police would not allow them to put their headscarves.

I am unsure how to feel about those comments. Is it usual for police to allow time for the appropriate attire to be put on?

I think for them it would be akin to our being asked to stand around in our underwear. I don't think the police would worry too much about respecting anyone they were raiding, so it probably wouldn't be specifically racsist . Just pretty unpleasant.Particularly if you hadn't done anything wrong.

its a tricky one. im all for religious tolerance, i really am. however there arent any laws protecting someone's right to always wear a veil. friends of mine that have been raided have used the opportunity to dress as a cover to conceal what the police may have been looking for.

at the end of the day australia does not enshrine in law the right OR responsiblity for anyone to adhere to such ridiculously antiquated cultural ideas, and if an officer of the law is carrying out their sworn and legal duty, i would argue that this duty comes before any PERSONAL belief system not protected by law.

the thing is, if they're being raided at this point in time, and due to the severity of the charges the police wouldnt raid unless they had very very very good reason to do so. Even the bad publicity caused due to an incorrectly raided house would not be good.. if your asleep and busted in on, your not allowed to do shit.. you can put your pants on, but when you're in australia, and you're arrested you follow our rules and customs.... simple as that. if the ladies werent wearing pants, then yes they can put them on, but headpieces are a luxury

I think that a muslim would strongly disagree with you about headscarves being a luxury. Although I do agree that a raid is a raid and there is no time for allowances.

God this is going to raise so many arguments and debates about a religion that does not encourage this behaviour.
