The top 100 female dj poll that shejay was promoting just posted their results.. Barbara came in 4th... they had quite a few techno djs on the list, including my friend Becka! Not sure how I feel about this kind of poll but it's worth a look anyway.

top 100 female djs

Where's Maus and/or Mini?

I see Portia Surreal didn't make the list this year...

I'm not too surprised they didn't make it.. this is the first year for this poll and I didn't see it promoted here really. There was a big push for it in Brazil which is mainly how I suspect several of their female techno djs fared well, since other than Kammy they don't play much outside their country. Maybe next year there will be more Canadian representation.

Friday's Livesets.com tribute is for James Ruskin
should be a goodie..

This week's 'a tribute to' show will feature James Ruskin.

London born and based techno producer and DJ. James Ruskin comes from a background that first put him in touch with hip hop and electro and later with the emerging Detroit techno scenes. This inspired him to become a DJ in 1991 and venture into production with studio-partner Richard Polson by 1994. Founded Blueprint with Polson in 1996. As Blueprint grew, he delivered his first solo releases and appeared elsewhere as remixer and co-producer.

I would suspect that many of the truly TOP female DJs didn't promote this poll, as to me it only promotes the segregation of male vs female in this business.

I noticed it was being promoted largely by female DJs who didn't have a chance of hitting the top 100 of the regular poll.

yup.. kind of like those DJs on the list who have a shejay page and those who don't. Most of the bigger names don't have one.

LOL
I have a shejay page. but I'm sure you knew that.

Shejay offered a good place for me to store my bio and a photo before I had my website up and running. It's hardly the same as begging people for votes on a female DJ poll.

If there were another, gender neutral location that offered me the same opportunity to store my information in the same format, I would have been all over that.

My post didn’t suggest one way or the other whether it is a good idea or not.. it was just an observation. Many other local females like Mini and Maus have pages with shejay as well as websites.
