It was just that, a refreshing set of various musical styles blendig together in an energetic mix that kept most of us dancing and smiling. I mean he went from melodic proggy stuff that had summery chill tracks, to more funky prog with mean basslines and deep grooves, then he exploded into full on trance mixed with dark tech tracks. His music was off the wall, it was so original. Yeah, I saw armin at the tobacco warehouse, it was a fucking ASOT episode, but longer. But all he played was either asottish prog or asottish trance - wow, how awesome. PVD, on the other hand, isn't afraid to diversify his set with funky house even. I mean house sucks by itself, but when placed properly in a banging set, it can really add some serious groove to the party. And that's exactly what PVD did. You can't lie - it worked for most of the people at the party. I mean I remember strangers all around me saying shit like "wow" and "this is incredible" all night long. I didn't hear a single "boo" or "play something else" comment. The show was something else, and I really do feel sorry for people who didn't click with the music and atmosphere that day.

What's surprising is that I'm a real trance fan, I love uplifting, epic, energetic trance. More than anything else. More than tech, dark, or prog trance. DEFINITELY more than house. But PVD managed to encorporate all of those styles in one set (maybe 30% of it was actual uplifting trance), and I thought the whole -set- was amazing. That just shows how the man can bring variety to the table in a fresh way, making you love the music itself, not its genre.

Once again....WORD!!!!!! Nice to read truth....

I still like to have it rocking. Keep in mind what this music is made for, first of all. Its not made to be easy listening on the radio. Its not made to be easy listening in television. Its actually kick ass in the club. This is what music is. This is the purpose of this art form...to listen to it and let the frequencies actually blow you away. --Paul Van Dyk

There is no "truth" when it comes to reviews. It's a subjective experience. Just because someone agrees with you does not make it true.

I'm glad you liked the set. You really shouldn't care so much whether everyone agrees, though.

I don't know if that was in reference to my response... but, I have no problem with someone writing a negative review... {i.e., yours - you didn't think the mixing was good (I too heard at least 4 times on Sat night when the tracks weren't properly matched), you didn't like the track selection, etc.}
What I don't like is when people use their negative review to berate another person's opinion. (i.e. dxsire, "chances are you've never seen anything good"). There's no need for that, IMHO

Just to clarify...The comment regarding PVD's eclectic mix of music and style was what I found truth in. I can't see that being denied. Also, people's opinions do not concern me...it's more of what Dirichlet was talking to: the outright berating of another person's opinion...

It wasn't at you. It's just a common theme that I see after every big DJ's gigs.

Lordy, it gets so contentious in here. I think we all need to look at the picture of that puppy that someone put up a while ago.

You guys haven't seen what happens when I've complained about a set and been in the minority on here, have you? I've definitely been outrightly berated more than a few times for not beig a fanboy and being critical of something someone else liked. Sometimes weekly, I think.

Also, what you said about the eclectic track selection, I agree, and I like when he does that and it fits. Maybe he does better over 6 hours than 4, which is why I enjoyed Roseland and Roxy more than the Central Park gigs. As I said before, he was just putting together tracks that didn't belong together, which is more what i meant by mixing than technical beatmatching when I said the mixing sucked.

And it's not restricted to PvD. I was standing next to SidMl for Dominik Eulberg @ Cielo a few weeks ago and he transitioned one track into another that just made us look at each other like

Anyone have the tracklist?

I enjoyed myself Saturday night in the park. Nothing can top a nice summer's evening with lasers and trance.

I too was annoyed with the drummer. He almost made Paul mess up Rank 1 - Airwave. And on principal I came up from DC to see PVD not this random dude. The only good thing about the drummer was that he seemed to liven up Paul. Normally he's stoic and boring. Saturday he was dancing around like a little kid.

No one bothered because both nights are being broadcast on Sirius this Friday.

Great show, and the drummer did a pretty good job. And now since all of you seem to know so much about music and Dj's here, how about telling me what song PVD played at exactly 9 PM on saturday.
The only clue I remmember is that I heard a Prog House version of that back in March played by Ali and Sharam in Crobar. Female vocals, who almost sounds like Nadia Ali, but is not..
