Dude! I liked your opening set! A WHOLE HELLUVA LOT ACTUALLY. It was completely on the basis of a discussion we had a few weeks ago. Getting up to the mid-high 130s at the peak of an opening set isn't going to be a huge issue if the style isn't epic (or that of the headlner's style). Your and Reza's opening set wasn't. It was very grinding, a bit of psytrance (about shit my pants when Infected Mushroom was layed down...hella slow! lol), etc. Nothing like Ferry's style.
I think your and Reza's approach to the opening set was very risky (considering it was Ruby Skye and it being that + Ferry means a good # of people were there who don't really know what expect and may not have liked how hard/fast you got), but it obviously worked. Crowd was going insane an hour before Ferry got on and even as you and Reza brought it back down over the last 45 minutes, it was so subtle and well done that there was no energy lost in the room. Playing the Orbital remix at the end was the clincher to a very good opening set. I heard Ferry talking to Reza how he loved his Halcyon remix and Ferry seemed very happy with your opening set.
Anyhow, what you and Reza did that was GREAT, IMO, other than just a different style (and for once, not just house!) was the come down from the banging tracks. Most openers bring it down, but they tend to it within like the last 15 minutes. You guys took your sweet time so it was a excellent transition.
It is why you, Taj, are who I consider the best opener period anywhere. I really do wish you would open up Ten15 more often.
Oh yeah, something you and Reza might like to hear. When Ferry was done and talking about how the place had a lot of energy from the moment he walked into the place, he mildly pointed ou that the openers did a good job. When he said his statement about the energy of the crowd, I was like "you have to thank Taj and Dirtyhertz for that, they got the crowd going," and he said (not in these exact words) "Yeah, from the sounds of it and what I heard they did a great job."
