I'm in Don Valley West (Tory's riding), and it was nothing but old white people. I mention white, because well I was the only minority around...interesting.

The workers also said, I was one of the only young people to come in to vote, and I went at 6pm!

I did vote for Tory, and he didn't even win.

my point was that, lately, a major excuse by some PC supporters is that the media is all liberal and bashing them in the press (i.e. not a level playing field).

of course supporters of each bash their opponents.

my main point is *exactly* what you said last...how lame is Tory perceived as a leader if people are willing to vote for a party headed by a liar? i.e. perhaps the provincial Conservatives need to examine their leadership and strategy if they can't even appeal enough to the public to oust a liar.

no?

jeez...Tory couldn't even win his own fucking seat, lol. Granted he was opposing a strong Liberal in Wynne, but it's a sad indication of his leadership and appeal (or lack thereof) if he can't even win his own seat!

tory's choice to run against wynne almost makes him to honest. i'd like to see the day when mcguinty takes a challenging riding to run in. I'm surprised anyone in ontario would vote for him anyways. Even if you're in agreeance with the liberal platform, how could you vote for mcguinty himself?

perhaps. McGuinty has a chance to actually DO something. Just as Danny Williams, with his ridiculous domination, now has the opportunity to DO something in NFLD. He won on the basis of standing up to the feds, but now he has to work with the feds to improve the situation of the province. That mandate will only go so far if results are not achieved.

but...the people have spoken here (cliche as that sounds). The conservatives have no one to blame but themselves. If the public are "ignorant" in handing McGuinty another majority, much of the blame has to fall at the opposition parties' failure to "educate" and appeal to voters.

it's also sad that only slightly more than half of eligible voters cast ballots. perhaps that's an indication of exasperation and voter apathy due to a lack of a good choice?

either way...if the Consvatives have half a brain, they'll ditch Tory as leader or at least completely revamp their strategy in the next election (like maybe focusing on their own platform instead of bashing the opposition). He couldn't win his own seat and his strategy (or lack thereof) was a complete disaster. McGuinty barely had to campaign at all...he essnentially coasted to not only the win, but the first consecutive majority win in what, 70 years?

pathetic on so many levels.

What the Consevatives need is true right wing leader. Not some wishy washy leader who can't stick to the party's values!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it mcguinty who promised he wouldn't raise taxes, but after being elected first thing he did was raise taxes?

I agree regarding the bashing ... it's definitely not necessary

How about the raising of university/college fees?
Bah... I don't understand why Ontario (or even Canada for that matter) doesn't just have compulsory voting.

because you have people feeling resentment towards the entire election process
less educated voters voting for what purpose? not to mention 'protest' votes like voting for the lunatic lesbian whalers for life party

I can field this one. The problem with conpulsory voting is that while you can force people to vote you cannot force them to be informed. Ultimately, those who would normally choose not to vote but do so under threat of punishment will show up and mark a box but they will often be uniformed or at best under informed. The end result is 40% of the population casts a vote at random or based on some idiotic criteria like name recognition, hair colour, race, the asthetics of lawn signs, etc. Personally, I'd just as soon have that 40% stay home and not fuck things up. If you can't be bothered to vote chances are you really shouldn't be given the power to elect a government.... I think Fat Mike said it best, "there's no point for democracy when ignorance is celebrated."

I'm honestly not sure how that's relevant to what I'm saying...?

McGuinty is a repeated liar and has done little in his tenure as Premier. That's pretty much indisputable, IMHO.
