i have built up my own sound banks over time and learned how to get what i want from my set up. through time and hard work

Yeah, but do you do this because it sounds good or so that you can jerk off to how awesome you are for your own mutual exclusivity while you make shit tracks... as opposed to leaving the sound design for someone who specializes it so that you can focus on creating a song?

There's nothing wrong with creating your own sounds from scratch, but to discount others for using created sounds in unique ways by saying it isn't original is asinine.

I have never made a *good* hi hat or snare from scratch. Wish I could find out how.

I think it's awesome when people can make absolutely all their own sounds, but you shouldn't be a jerk about it like you have been in this thread. You can still make a good song if you use samples from other people.

i made a thread that includes a tutorial on how to make your own hi hats

I dont know, sometimes things are just so logical that you just have to try and explain it.

He says that if you arent making your own samples your music will be unoriginal and generic.. even though the artists he has listed as original can be proven do use plenty of samples, it still doesnt go through.

Yes but a long time ago someone should have come along and said most people are ok with using samples, and one person isn't. /thread locked

I get where the guy is coming from. If I were capable, I would probably synthesize all my own sounds as well, at least when it comes to dance music. Half the fun of making this music for me is "conquering" a new sound by overcoming the puzzle of how to make it and shape it exactly the way I want. But I know others feel differently so I am not going to call them hacks or unoriginal if they would rather do otherwise.

We all respect and have no problem with that, but you are saying that this is the only way to make "your own" sound. If you think thats how your favorite artists do it, then you need to do more research.

i tried synthesizing my own kicks and also tried many drum synth presets and none come some what close to the hardness of a VEC Bassdrum. If someone knows a synth thats capable of replicating this, then tell me!

I make all of my own sounds, but I still think this guy is being unreasonable.

Listen, I totally respect you for making all of your sounds from scratch. I just think it's ridiculous for you to think that you aren't creating something new by using something someone has ever touched ever.

VEC kicks have lots of noise and distortion which makes them sound louder. Most of their samples are just ripped from other people's records anyway and then processed, right?

Personally I find a lot of VEC percs to be harsh on my ears, but that crunchy noisy sound seems to be what's in for trance these days.
