Man, when we studied Nightingale I was shocked. During that war the patients were housed in absolute filth. Inches of sewage and waste on the ground, rats everywhere, etc. Her investigations revealed that there were dead horses in the ground leaking all their rot into the building. Through her observations, she realized that it was the soldiers in the quarters with ventilation that had better survival rates.
She was a brilliant woman. A statistician and all that shit.
