Oliver Cromwell made a lot of Irish people slaves and made them build stone walls around the countryside for no particular reason. They're still standing near Galway. That's one of the many reasons Irish people absolutely hate Cromwell and most British people. That was in the mid 1600s so it's possible some were sent to the British colonies in the Caribbean and southern US as well. I don't recall ever hearing about that, but I wouldn't put it past him.
Edit: I think she was alluding to the fact that it's difficult to point to a "pure" Irish lineage, simply for the fact that Ireland has been conquered so many fucking times. My last name actually has Norman roots, and meant "the red-haired one" or something like that.
