Fun story for the day.
The Chinese manufacturing industry and stuff they don't teach you when you get a business degree
Ok as an investor I've bounced in and out of China a couple of times over the last 8 or so years looking to get some stuff made there.
Essentially its a large corrupt, dirty building site crossed with a spittoon full of BS-Artists of the highest order, all with the moral compass of an alley cat on heat at the first sniff of money. Go check out their factories and its full of people that have all the motivation of someone just waiting to die, go back to their 10x15 apartment shared with 4 other minimum wage peasants from some 3rd world rice farming village. Then, want to die some more.
Quality control is basically nil.
If the foreman is looking, they work... sort of, if he's not there, they're nipping out the nearest door for a fag and scampering back like roaches when you flick the light on.
That's not to say you can't get something made there of quality, however, you will pay big manufacturing prices and be prepared for disappointment from time to time when screw ups happen... then get on a plane and start yelling at the boss.
Calling them on the phone, does nothing, carries nothing and they won't care. Stop paying them, they just stop making things and you've got nothing to sell and will lose money.
Have your minders discretely slap him around for a bit with the office door closed. That's actually culturally ok, they sort of understand that ripping off the boss equals "fear & pain" and are very regretful if they get caught. But they're never upset about trying to rip you off, so don't feel too bad. If you think he might squeal, pay off the local police in advance to have a siesta & a beer... or 5 and watch those complaints make their way to the nearest bin.
This effect flows down into the rest of the workforce as the boss inflicts the finest motivation to be found in any developing countries, repeated boots in the arse until their nose bleeds and quality improves.
Now, the person who bought the Chinese ute, probably doesn't understand this first hand, that his vehicle was made by pretty much the lowest common denominator, for the lowest price, by people who hate what they do.
But now you do and you hopefully won't buy one either.
