How can you NOT have copy/cut/paste capabilities on a smartphone? It's ridiculous.

The iPhone didn't have copy & paste until 3.0, the entire world b*tched & complained, 1.0 to 3.0 is two years!

I doubt we'll see multitasking either

Windows mobile right now has copy/paste and multi tasking, and has since the beginning of the OS. How they can remove such features is beyond me.

I loved Windows Mobile because it felt like a real business phone, and allowed me to get a tonne done. The interface was shit, and it was unstable, but my productivity was still very high.

Trying to work on documents on the iphone is a nightmare. How the fuck do you move files around, and import documents? You have to import docs to specific programs, instead of a spot on the hard drive? Insane.

Windows Mobile has its strong points. I really hope that M$ does not go backwards trying to appease the idiotic iPhone crowd.

I've never ever had the need to copy and paste on any phone I've ever owned. I have no idea why this is a big deal. Multitasking yes, what the hell is that?

I've copied addresses from websites and texted the details to friends, I copied sms conversations, and pasted them in an email to my laptop. Copied hyperlinks from other chat apps to save for later. Lots of good uses.

Microsoft on copy and paste in Windows Phone 7 Series: 'people don't do that'
By Nilay Patel posted Mar 17th 2010 9:56PM

Microsoft certainly set off a firestorm of controversy yesterday with the revelation that Windows Phone 7 Series won't have copy and paste, since it doesn't necessarily line up with what the company has said in private before -- and the issue seems to have gotten even more clouded as people have started hacking around the emulator. So let's set the record straight on what we were told, since it wasn't ambiguous in any way: Microsoft says leaving clipboard operations out was a conscious design decision based on user research showing that people don't actually use copy and paste very often, and that instead 7 Series features a systemwide data detection service which recognizes things like phone numbers and addresses so you can take action on them. Third-party apps can hook into this service, so that an email address can be routed to the email client of your choice, but there's no copy and paste functionality. We specifically asked about Office and OneNote, and we were told that Microsoft's research shows that people mostly want to view and comment on documents, not move things around. We also specifically asked if copy and paste was coming later and were told no, although we'd guess that it's at least being worked on for a future version. Don't take it from us, though -- listen to Microsoft's Todd Brix for yourself:

Windows Phone 7 Series multitasking: the real deal

Windows Phone 7 to get copy & paste post-launch

The Windows Phone 7 platform has caused quite a stir this week as the nitty gritty details under the pretty exterior are being exposed for the world to see. One of the details causing the greatest amount of consternation is the reported lack of copy & paste, a feature that was an integral part of Windows Mobile and one that was touted as a benefit Windows Mobile had over the first two generations of the iPhone. According to well-known Windows blogger Long Zheng, copy & paste will be an integral part of Windows Phone 7 Series, just not at launch. Rather than delay the launch of Microsoft’s latest mobile platform, a decision was apparently made to pull the feature and roll it out soon after launch. The development team has reportedly worked out all the details on “how” Microsoft will implement the copy & paste feature but they just needed additional time to integrate the mechanism into the the codebase. Windows fans can possibly now stop fretting about copy & paste and turn their attention towards the ensuing difficult buying decision they face — do they jump on board with the first handsets at launch or do they delay gratification until a feature complete OS is out in the wild?

Public Mobile: “Today we have 25 stores open for business”

Last week we let you know that new entrant Public Mobile was set to make an announcement that would see them open stores and offer customers free Unlimited Canadian long distance for life.

Well today is the big day as Alek Krstajic, CEO of Public Mobile said “Today we have 25 stores open for business. Customers can visit us in person, call us or go to www.publicmobile.ca. And by mid-May, we expect to have twice the number of locations. Now that our stores are open and ready to go, we want to give our customers the same opportunity. We are excited to offer unlimited talk and text and we want people to have the chance to use our service as soon as it’s available.”

There are 15 stores located in Toronto and 10 stores located in Montreal. Public Mobile offers a $40 flat rate unlimited Talk and Text plan. Who’s going to sign up with Public Mobile?
