i remember Martin Brundle saying Alonso would be penalised if he received assistance from the marshals, but i could be wrong.

in any case, in my opinion Alonso was in a much more dangerous position than Michael Schumacher at the Nurburgring, since he was right outside of a very tight chicane. the hairpin at Nurburg is much wider and even if someone was to outbreak himself into that corner, it would have been quite easy to avoid running into Michael.

so if the rule posted above is correct, i must say i'm quite suprised the marshalls did not wish to help him out of the gravel trap.

The first bit is correct (and correlates almost exactly to the FIA rule, I checked after I posted, rule 160 I think it was), the second bit is my interpretation.

Brundle said something along the lines of: Alonso will be penalised if he receives assistance, (the camera then changed to on board), but he is in a dangerous position there.
I watched that bit today so it is pretty fresh in my memory. The Nurburg incident set a precedent of it being okay for marshals to move a car if it is in a dangerous position and allowing the driver to continue, the way I see it is that Alonso should also have been given help. If the FIA changed their interpretation after Nurburgring, thats okay, but MSC went unpunished for a similar incident so if there was no change Alonso should have been extended the same assistance.

There must have been a change of interpretation, its the only explanation as far as I can see - remember the marshals are under race control directions so it wasn't a case of it being Italian marshals.

Trulli has been sacked by Renault

Jacques Villeneuve will perform a two day test for the team at Silverstone this week and is rumored to replace Trulli for the last three races of this season.

yeah, i heard about this earlier today... about time he came back... too bad he couldn't have stayed on another year with BAR, cuz jv/jb duo would've been amazing this season...

speaking of which, BAR desparately needs some good drivers for next season since JB has decided to split... Sato is ok, but hes there more because of political reasons than anything else... wouldn't it be great if BAR acquired JPM for next season and if JB stayed on for another year, then they'd be the only ones to truly fight the ferraris really...

JPM is on his way to McLaren, so no BAR for him.

So far David Couthard hasn't found a seat for next year, he should look to BAR, I think thats really the only top driver without a seat for next year so far.

Ferrari
MSC
Rubens

Williams
Mark Webber
Jenson Button (depending on contract argument with BAR)

McLaren
Kimi
Montoya

Renault
Alonso
Fisichella

BAR
Sato
?

Sauber
Villeneuve
Massa

Toyota
Ralf
Probably Trulli

They are the line ups for next year for the top/big budget teams, really the only hole for David Coulthard is at BAR, unless he ends up somewhere like Jordan, Jaguar or leaves altogether........

according to Martin Brundle, David Coulthard is looking at Jaguar. but since Sauber confirmed Jacques Villeneuve, BAR could definitely be an option for him now.

it's a bit of a shame Jacques is on his way to Sauber, because he'll be in the same position as he was at BAR.. he may well score a couple of points, but that's about it. Sauber is not a winning team, which BAR is at the moment. maybe his difficult relationship with David Richards was the decisive factor, but still.. i can't help but feeling he would be better of at BAR.

while we're at it, there's a (unlikely?) chance Tiago Monteiro (yay, a portuguese driver) may sign for Minardi as he's their test driver. like anyone cares about Minardi

what's happening to Cristiano da Matta? and Nick Heidfeld, he's a decent driver, won't he ever jump to a bigger team?

ah, and i saw this rumour at the newspapper that Dallara may be on their way back to F1 the following season (2006?). Also tv commentators were saying Jaguar may be renamed to Ford.

I'd be surprised if Ford DIDN'T rename Jag, Ford is much more of a global brand than Jaguar.

I think Da Matta is on his way back to CART or IRL

Apparently there is a new team that may enter for 2005, Max Mosley was saying that during press conferences earlier in the year when he was talking cost containment.

I'd like to see Nick Heidfeld in a better team, I think he is probably the most under rated driver in the field (it was Fisi until he got signed to Renault). He should compete against DC for the seats at BAR and Jaguar/Ford, he has age on his side.

Back on topic of Jacques Villeneuve. I've got to say that it would be in BAR's and JV's best interest if they rejoined. JV is an aggressive driver and he needs an aggressive and reliable car in order to rival Ferrari, and with advancements made by BAR this season, it would've been really fun to watch the 2004 with JV/JB duo. The only thing that would prevent such a mirracle is of course Dave Richards who has done absolutely nothing positive for BAR during his tenure. He has pushed JV away, and now JB as well!! It's time Dave Richards had been sacked! The ONLY positive thing he had done was to bring in Geoff Willis for the 2004 season and Geoff is the only reason why such an advancement had been done on the 006 BAR car. The 005 version was a disaster prior to Geoff's coming to BAR.

DAVE RICHARDS HAS GO TO GO! BRING BACK VILLENEUVE!!!

"Jaguar to Leave Formula 1 Racing" from Formula1.com

"Jaguar's presence in Formula One has been a valuable marketing and brand awareness platform particularly outside our main markets of the US and the UK,” said Joe Greenwell, chairman of Jaguar Cars. “However it was our collective view that it is time for Jaguar Cars to focus 100% on our core business.

“After a thorough review over many months Ford Motor Company has decided it can no longer make a compelling business case for any of its brands to compete in Formula One.

“Having reached this decision our focus has turned to securing the best future for our Formula One businesses and our employees in these businesses going forward. We are therefore putting our Formula One businesses up for sale.”

Ford Vice-President Richard Parry-Jones, the man in charge of Jaguar’s Formula One operations, told news agency Reuters that a number of potential buyers had already expressed interest.

Jaguar came into the sport in 2000 after taking over the Stewart team. Since then they have seen only limited success and currently lie seventh in the 2004 constructors’ championship standings.

The sale of Cosworth could also have a major impact on the Minardi and Jordan teams, both of whom are powered by the company’s engines. Minardi recently announced a deal to continue use of their V10s for the 2005 season.

Interesting, I must admit I am surprised, I thought Ford would stay in, at most renaming the team to Ford.
