Have sex with it. This week its getting 4 demos. Download some free demos, buy Warhawk and GT5:P off the PSN store. Also get Uncharted and Resistance from retail, two of the best next gen games.

True BUT...

the former has pretty much no replay value. It's fun as hell to play... but playing it on a harder difficulty to unlock an even higher one (and some costumes and art, in the meanwhile) isn't particularly great content.

the latter has fairly weak online play (not to par with the other FPSs out on both PS3 & 360).

Personally, I'd say rent both before purchase.

Resistance as best of anything besides "best of the shitty next gen FPS" is laughable.

One of the worst games I've had the displeasure of playing through.

NOTE: One of the best next gen games FOR PS3. Haha... Not comparing to Wii/360.

That's a pretty tall order considering the amount of shit content out there, especially with the onslaught of complete half-ass Wii games that pitifully try to replicate the success of games such as Wii Sports and hope to cash-in on the Wii craze that has consumed the world.

Resistance was nothing overly mindblowing, nor was it entirely original, but I thought it tied together a lot of what I like in an FPS. Considering you aren't that big of a fan of most FPS games in the first place (let Halo be a prime example, though your reasons are more than acceptable and I agree with almost all of them), I'm not entirely surprised Resistance wasn't your cup of tea.

Still, I'm a little surprised the chaotic-as-all-hell 32 player online modes didn't interest you. And I thought the game had a very 'clean' feel that made everything seemed polished and complete. Maybe I'm biased because this was my first (and still ONLY) PS3 game and I practically forced myself to love it considering I spent over $500 to play it.

Whoa-whoa-whoa, who said I don't like FPS?!?!? I love them, I just don't like blande, generic, "I've-seen-all-this-shit-before", accessible, lame duck FPS on the market. Bioshock was a great FPS, Resistance was a great POS.

The whole Wii debate has absolutely nothing to do with this either, I'll be the first to acknowledge how shit 90% of the catalog for that system is.

Resistance was not only a bland looking, run-of-the-mill FPS with a story that on first glance was "Huh, could be neat" but upon further inspection played out about as well as the recent Area 51 release. It's multi-player was nothing that other games haven't done far better for years, and the only reason it was reviewed as highly as it was is because it was one of the only first generation PS3 games that was worth a pinch of shit at all.

Okay, okay, maybe I inadvertently stuffed some words in your mouth there. Although you ARE critical of the FPS genre, you have every right to be considering the fact that it's probably the most crowded genre in the gaming industry these days. And my Wii mention was only an example that there are far worse games then Resistance, but everyone has a taste. I'm just a sucker for FPS games in general, it's take a lot for me to hate one.

I used to be as well, I just haven't seen anything really interesting in all that many of them for a long, long time - and with TF2 out now, it really doesn't seem as though the likelihood of anyone coming up with anything all that interesting is pretty slim.

I will concede that there are definitely far, far worse games than Resistance out there - but it also didn't warrant all the 8's and 9's it received from reviewers. In my mind, it wasn't a good game by any measuring stick, and fell even flatter because it was done in a genre that made it's failings that much more obvious.

And as for me being a huge critic of FPS in general - well, you hit the nail on the head.

There are just too many of the ******s out there, and more than half of them never warranted release in the first place.

This is becoming more true every passing year. It seems the best way to show off a system's capabilities is to release an FPS. Xbox started this trend with Halo, the 360 continued it with Call of Duty 2, and now PS3 with Resistance. I'm guessing it's because it appeals the best to casual audiences.

RPG's usually require a lot of time...meaning no casual audience.

Puzzle games require thinking...a lot of dumb people out there, and many of them belong in the casual audience, meaning less chance for them to buy one.

Sports games fit perfectly with the casual audience...but a lot of hardcore gamers hate sports in the first place, so no go for them on that one, that cuts out the hardcore market.

Racing games are a mixed bag...depends on if its Ridge Racer/Burnout, or Gran Turismo.

But an FPS game...well, most of them require absolutely no thinking, and since they are games that contain content that can appeal to everyone, there is no segregation of the market...everybody can buy into it, which will lead to greater sales/revenue.

I'm not sure how to categorize fighting games...they go well with casual and hardcore gamers alike, and yet not a single fighting game has reached Halo/Call of Duty/Half-Life popularity status since maybe the Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat days.
