Are there sites out there that actually match you based on interests, motives, hobbies, or any of the other characteristics that make you a person?

lol @ lies. It depends man, if I hit up a situation where I'm not completely comfortable, it's awkward. TA events, events when I'm with a bunch of friends etc are different. Keep in mind that some of them do it purely for the ego boost. It's not an incidental side-effect, it's their primary motivation.

There's also an insidious addictive effect, because no matter how much attention somebody gets online, it's still not worth as much as 5 minutes of face-to-face. Since people perceive that they're fulfilling a need when they really aren't, it turns into a virtual crack habit very fast and they'll make all sorts of excuses for it (I'm just on for a few minutes, it's been rotten weather lately, I'm just finding people to hook up with offline, I'm just tired, and so on and so forth...)

I really feel sorry for a lot of those girls because what they're doing isn't sustainable. Eventually the fragile ego they build up will get shattered and they'll end up in the same place they were before, with the notable exception of having wasted several months doing nothing.

Could this logic not be applied to the majority of social networking sites?
