Even if he isn't your cup of tea....it was still an inspiring day/night.

I hope he does well! We sure need a change.

this is progress people!
next up: a black, homosexual, atheist as president.

but seriously, what's with all the pessimism? I don't think Obama is going to be anywhere near as bad as a letdown as some other recent US presidents. so let's not jump to conclusions either way.
we should simply be glad that he's not a fundamentalist-hick...he's actually a pretty open-minded intellectual. so we'll see where this goes.

I'll probably get flamed for this but here goes.

I am happy that Obama won and that he has brought hope to a country that needs it more now that ever. However, I just don't get what everyone sees in him. He is a bright man, who put together a great group of people, raised a lot of money, and ran great campaigns. He was in short the right person at the right time. America needed change, hope, something to believe in and he brought that to them. The comparisons that are being made to him and Martin Luther King I find really offensive.

Martin Luther King fought for people who did not have basic human rights in their own country because of the colour of their skin. His "I have a dream" speach still gives me chills every time I hear it. Obama wasn't fighting to be able to sit at the same lunch counter or to be able to drink from the same fountain...he was fighting to become the most powerful man in the world. He hasn't done anything other than be a senator for 1/2 of his term.

So lets celebrate about his victory. Lets hope he continues to bring hope to a country that desperatly needs it and shows that a black man can rise up and become president. He did make history last night by becoming the first black man ever elected to be the president of the USA, but please lets see what he does over the next 4 to 8 years before we start saying he changed the world. He may go down in history as the first black president but also the worst president.

In short I'm happy he won, but please lets see what he actually does as president before we proclaim him to be great. We never know what the future will bring and how things will unfold...after all what would the Bush presidency have been like if 911 never happened?

I don't know if you realized this but California voted for Obama and they also voted to ban gay marriage. I guess that means that both Republicans and Democrats can be homophobic. So the Democrats in California voted to ban gay marriage. Does that mean all those poeple who voted for Obama are against gay marriage, that was your previous assumption about Republicans.

Maybe, just maybe people vote for a party or a leader who best represents the majority of their beliefs. I for one vote mostly conservative and wait for it....are you ready....you won't believe this...its going to blow your mind

I'm gay

I vote mostly on economic policy, who would have thought that was possible.

Wrong! Ron Paul 2012 FTW!

Socially, mentally he may be the right guy. Economically, strategically, they needed a pres with a solid understanding of the financial markets, and world history.

They had their chance to elect Ron Paul, and failed, large.

I think this is really well said, and there's no reason for you to be flamed.
I think Obama himself would agree that the comparisons between him and Martin Luther King are too much.

I don't get why people are so upset that people have faith in him though. Everyone knows time will tell. But for now...there's nothing wrong with hope, in whatever its form.

If you really want to hear something that just pissed me off when I was at Minitek. Francois K replaced the "I have a dream" sample with Obama. It was so bad in my opinion.

Quote from a website about it.

Francois then proceeded to take us on a life-changing journey, capped off with storm sound efx that literally ushered in a cool breeze, and a modern twist on the classic MLK, I Have A Dream sample that replaced Dr. King’s voice with Obama’s and had everyone’s hands way in the air.

Wrong!

Take out peoples emotions and feelings and what they needed was someone like Paul. They needed someone like Obama who brought hope and the appearance of change. Hopefully he surrounds himself with good people who will guide him through the hard economic times ahead.

Go solve a mystery.

It is worth explaining because of your inflammatory comment.

(FYI: I voted against a similar proposition [to ban gay marriage] in 2004 and have voted for both democratic and republican candidates in various races)
