I'll probably get flamed for this but here goes.
I am happy that Obama won and that he has brought hope to a country that needs it more now that ever. However, I just don't get what everyone sees in him. He is a bright man, who put together a great group of people, raised a lot of money, and ran great campaigns. He was in short the right person at the right time. America needed change, hope, something to believe in and he brought that to them. The comparisons that are being made to him and Martin Luther King I find really offensive.
Martin Luther King fought for people who did not have basic human rights in their own country because of the colour of their skin. His "I have a dream" speach still gives me chills every time I hear it. Obama wasn't fighting to be able to sit at the same lunch counter or to be able to drink from the same fountain...he was fighting to become the most powerful man in the world. He hasn't done anything other than be a senator for 1/2 of his term.
So lets celebrate about his victory. Lets hope he continues to bring hope to a country that desperatly needs it and shows that a black man can rise up and become president. He did make history last night by becoming the first black man ever elected to be the president of the USA, but please lets see what he does over the next 4 to 8 years before we start saying he changed the world. He may go down in history as the first black president but also the worst president.
In short I'm happy he won, but please lets see what he actually does as president before we proclaim him to be great. We never know what the future will bring and how things will unfold...after all what would the Bush presidency have been like if 911 never happened? |
Seriously, no one is gonna be worse then George W.

I think this is really well said, and there's no reason for you to be flamed.
I think Obama himself would agree that the comparisons between him and Martin Luther King are too much.
I don't get why people are so upset that people have faith in him though. Everyone knows time will tell. But for now...there's nothing wrong with hope, in whatever its form.
