This Milli Vanilli reality is normal in electronic music. Somebody produces the tunes and somebody tours to promote them.
They both do their jobs well and both parties benefit.
I could spend all day naming producers who produce and djs that promote but it all comes down to this:

If the money is right for both parties involved then its business as usual.

Its not till somebody is screwed out of royalties that they start yelling from the top of their lungs letting the world know that ''X DJ ripped me off he is worthless big star dj that doesn't know how to produce shit and only know to get credit for other peoples talent!''

Of cource everybody wants to say: I am not just worthless ''big star dj'' I also produce music and to some extent they might.

Some people evolve from being just djs and start messing with the gear and making music themselves.
Paul van dyk said he used to work with cosmic gate in the beginning of the 90's to learn production. I am sure if you put him in front of a sequencer he could come up with something decent these days.

Its not just dance music... you think nirvana or other big name rock bands produced their own music?

Congradulations you have officialy graduated from the fanboy infant reality and you are now ready to evolve and see the music industry for what it really is
A business like everything else

Why is it wrong for people to know who does what with the music? That seems to be what this topic could show.

Do any females in trance/prog/electro actually produce or know how to produce dance music? Would be interesting to see a list.

Perhaps many can learn to produce, but it will always be a select few who can compose masterpieces or classic hits.

Producer/Writers

When you get to the high level that many of the DJ's that have been named here get to, you don't have a lot of time to write and produce. At the level of Armin and Tiesto you are the "front guy". There are people behind the scenes booking, making air and hotel reservations, rides to and from the airport. Would you expect the DJ to do all of his own artwork for his CD's? Does the DJ do all of their own graphics on their web site??? At the high level these guys are at they have to do what is the smart thing to put your time into. Who is going to be working on the next release due out in 2 months when you're touring Austraia for 3 weeks then China for 4 weeks. People...This is BIG business. A top 10 DJ can bring in 10-15K per night....3 nights per weekend = 25-35K per week. That's 1 million to 1.5 Million per year revenue without record revenue. Now tell me are you going to hire someone to write and produce for you????? I think you would. Oh, that's right you would be a sell out, you know it's about the music.....
BS it's about the MONEY and if you think otherwise just get in the business.

Producers behind the scenes make a deal with the DJ's. They make plenty of money for their services. They know what they are getting into. THe good ones pay you for your services....the snakes say "Hey you help me with this......or "You teach me Logic, and when I get into the big money you'll make big money also"..... These are the DJ's that are using people...... Yes some of the ones on the list work this way. Just help me this one time and next time you'll make a lot of money...... Untalented users just trying to get ahead.

Just my 2 cents. I know of a producer/writer making a great living behind the scenes. They have written songs for most of the DJ's on your list.

No, but then again, DJs don't usually claim to have done those things, do they? This topic is about DJs who pass off other people's work as their own, giving no credit.

Most DJ's release mix CD's. These are a compilation of everyone else's songs.......I don't here any bitching about these...
Lets see.....When you go to Ruth's Chris Steak House do you think Ruth is out back cooking your steak???
Does MR Starbucks make your coffee???
Henry Ford put your car together?????
No these smart business people hire people to produce these products. Music is simply a product.

When we go see a DJ at the club and pay $45.00 do we expect them to only play their songs???? We simply go to see them perform.

There is no deception it's simply smart business.
Until you understand this you'll be performing and producing in your bedroom...Understand how the money is made, and work the system to maximize your profits.

In the end it's how much ended up in the bank for the year...
