Yes, I'm sure.

I can tolerate some of it when it's offset by sections or entire tracks of less frenetic stuff. the reason I love them is that the rhythmic & harmonic components of almost everything they make are phenomenal. I couldn't care less about how loud they can get.

...not to mention incredible musicianship (see: not just being able to play really really fast)

I've been listening to Metal music for a long time now. And yes Opeth is good music, even if you don't like the growls in it there's still songs of theirs with only clean vocals.
I have Deliverance from Opeth but would like to get My Arms, Your hearse sometime. I mostly listen to Death, Black, thrash, Nu, Groove, and some Doom and Power Metal from Metal music.

Get 'My Arms, Your Hearse', it's fantastic. And it's a perfect starting point to then go on and listen to 'Still Life' and 'Blackwater Park', chronologically.

Personally I found "Blackwater Park" to be a perfect starting point. However, I was just getting into metal at that point and production value played a big role for me.

Sure, "Blackwater Park" would be perfect as an introduction, Steven Wilson did such a great job with the production. However i think "My Arms, Your Hearse" sounds very good as well, it's certainly more rudimentary than their post-00 releases, but it's a big improvement over the first two albums. It sounds very round, and atmospheric, and the material on it is pure class.
