Limbo Records started out as 100% progressive house - they were second only to Guerilla in their output - but they evolved over the '90s and most stuff after 1996 is basically progressive trance. Do we still consider certain tracks with a formulaic breakdown and a lead melody to be progressive trance?

For example, is Bedrock - Heaven Scent progressive trance? Most, if not all progressive trance tracks are pretty unpredictable unlike your standard uplifting trance track with the build up/breakdown/anthem setup.
I hope I can be understood here...

Hi Matthew, thanks for writing me

What I mean by 'Progressive Trance is a contradiction in terms' is that Progressive House Music was never intended a style form but as a mish mash of various styles. One of those styles-and adopted by most Dj' s is a trancy one but that was a natural progression because of the very nature. (long mixes flowing from one into the other track)

Trance is formulaic and not really meant to experiment. It whould Be very predictable. Nothing wrong with that but that's why I said its a contradiction to use the words progressive and Trance. It's never been progressive.

However they did crossover eventually and now what's called Progressive isn't progressive anymore. Its just a term without any meaning. If anything it has become a predictable sub style of dance Music.

But that's the way it goes. And what's a contradiction too in a way is that that's progress.

In the end it's just a name. So it doesn't really matter
