Fair enough.

Yeah, very early. 1991 was it? I didn't get around to buying the Blue Lines album until 1996. Still ages ago, fuck I'm old

I edited my original post with the tracklist. Sorry it took so long, though some people seem to have liked that it wasn't there

Hope you it looks like something you might be interested in, Jan and anyone else who has avoided downloading it.

Grant, thanks. Very glad to hear you enjoyed it . I'll reply more in depth to your post tomorrow, but I need to sleep now. Have a terrible headache

I thought this was one of the main points of the mix, ie. if you suggest it, you then offer help (if needed) on finding the tunes, and then listen back at the end, regardless of if you like what the person picked or not?

You're right, the rules do indeed say that you're obliged to provide some feedback on the mix with the genre you entered (whether that actually happens or not is another story). My point about effort still stands, though.

indeed. I'm looking forwards to Hamid doing the Hard Trance mix and seeing which route he takes it down, but I'm obliged to if it's good stuff or if he plays Special D & Bassmunter

I had a lot of trouble with this genre, namely the song structure making things difficult (lots of ambient intros and outros, little in the way of starting/ending beats)... so there's a lot of ambient fades and quick crossfader slams. Did some research and found a few songs I liked a lot... there was one song that just HAD to be on due to the name. Ahhh well, would be interested in any comments, especially from the psy diehards on this board. Keep in mind, I'm a house guy and this is my first time ever mixing this genre.

gonna grab this tomorrow I'd say that the problems you have are common, and I've always tried where possible to mix from the beats when a track starts, even if it can be a long way into there. Some of the kick patterns can be retarded too, but overall it's not that hard once you're into it. With a lot of basslines being similar, I found it easy to filter in/out when I mixed it regularly. If that's good or not, I dunno. Will review once I've had chance to listen, prob tues or weds

OK here is my dubstep mix, i don't know if i followed a commercial line or an underground one, i think there is a bit of everything, the mix start more calmed and grows into dirty stuff. I found this entertaining and i discovered there is a lot of shit dubstep, the one i knew particularly but i like this tracks... most notably i like Bassnectar, great producer imo.

There is a balanced amount of instrumentals and vocals in the mix , mix wise i think it has a good flow, there are some mistakes here and there but it's fine i believe.

Tracklist:

1.- Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea (Forensics Remix) [CDR]
2.- Bassnectar feat. Tina Malia - Underwater (Original Mix) [Amorphous Recordings]
3.- Stellamara - Prituri Se Planinata (NiT GriT Remix) [Self Released]
4.- Magnetic Man - MAD (Original Mix) [Self Released]
5.- Liquid Stranger feat. Robotti - Nintendo (Original Mix) [Rottun Recordings]
6.- Dedmau5 - I Remember (Caspa Remix) [EMI]
7.- Pendulum - Showdown (Excision Remix) [Breakbeat Kaos]
8.- Noisia - Machine Gun (16 Bit Remix) [Division]
9.- System F - Dance Valley 2001 (Extended Mix) [Tsunami]
10.- Skrillex - Kill Everybody (Original Mix) [Mau5trap]
11.- Ellie Goulding - Lights (Bassnectar Remix) [CDR]
12.- Infected Mushroom - Converting Vegetarians (Album Mix) [Yoyo Records]

It first came out as a single in 1990, then again on Blue Lines in 91.

Listening now. That Jaïa track is more goa to me than psy, but the others have been solid psytrancers so far. 16:15-transition wasn't very good. Certainly didn't feel properly synched/timed. Didn't last that long, but was noticeable.

edit: Otherwise no specifically bad remarks about the mixing/transitions. The mix had some good tracks and I believe most of it was what Hamid was looking for in a psytrance mix

I will listen to Rodri's after this one

Agreed here. The way you brought in Exposed was okay, you lost energy, but that wasn't my issue with this track. You bumped the speed up way too fast and thumping in comparison to the first track. The mix into Contact wasn't very good, you should have started it way sooner, and the beats were off a bit. In general, the flow was a bit confusing and the mixing was a bit iffy, it seemed like you were quite afraid to beatmatch most of these! Don't be so timid next time, just keep the low frequencies down during the mix in, and try not to let the beats get too heavy.

I would have probably ordered the tracks like this to fix up the flow a bit.

-Jaia - Mai Mai
-Son Kite - Game & Watch
-Neelix - Contact
-Ace Ventura - Exposed (Liquid Soul Remix)
-Ticon - Chicken Shaker
-Wizzy Noise - Behemoth
-1200 Micrograms - God of Rock
-Silicon Sound - Pure Reality (Ephedrix Mix)
-Ephedrix - Prototype (Chichke & Multitech Mix)

Nice effort though, I liked most of the tracks. Track of the set IMO was either Chicken Shaker or Pure Reality. Nice work!

So uh, I think I did it right. In comparison to the three tracks that were posted as examples of this genre it looks like I took a more mainstream approach.

I was really digging this genre, a lot. What was pretty cool about it is that it's a pretty versatile bag. From my understanding the whole UK Funky thing is really housey stuff with percussion reminiscent of a style like reggaeton. I tried not to stray too far from that but I can definitely see all sorts of other styles mixed up with this.

Cosmic Beat - Funk The Pain Away by Cosmic Beat

1. Robin S - Show Me Love (Geeneus Remix)
2. Estelle - Comve Over (Crazy Cousinz Remix)
3. Diamond - Fly Away (Ft. Sophie Romain)
4. Gracious K - Migraine Skank
5. Fish Go Deep - The Cure & The Cause (Dennis Ferrer Remix)
6. Nick Holder - Summer Daze (Funkin Skanks Mix)
7. Aaron Carl - Oasis (Nick Holder Vocal Dub)
8. Fuzzy Logik - In The Morning (Ft. Egypt)
9. Rebecca Knight - Guilty Secret (Sunday Showers)
