They have their heads up Richie Hawtins ass, no one is more white than Richie or the minimal movement in general. And its just not trance, the entire progressive movement is ignored from the 90s. So is all the techno that was produced then. You notice the trance being ignored because its probably what most people associate with 90s dance music most strongly but the fact remains that a techno track released today sounds radically different than one released in 89 and the biggest reason is because of the stuff numerous artists in different genres did in the 90s until now. The entire electronic movement has occurred through numerous contributions by numerous artists over the years and ignoring an entire decades worth of that contribution to somehow draw a straight line from today to Detroit and Chicago for some hipster retro cool vibe is nothing but selective amnesia at best and downright fraud at worst. RA reminds me of rolling stone magazine who continually somehow tries and ignore the fact that Pink Floyd actually occurred, and they somehow even do this while reviewing a radiohead album which is a near impossible feat. |
I'm not sure how often you read RA, but your perception of it is waaayyy off. They have the biggest hard-on for 90's techno & house, suggesting they ignore the 90's is simply ludicrous.
Also, Hawtin isn't even cool anymore, infact he's kind of been shunned in the past few years because he's stuck with this mnml plong stuff after everyone else jumped ship. I've had this weird revelation with the last Villalobos record, minimal has been so dead and shunned for the past few years that it's almost sort of getting interesting again because only a few people are still doing it. At least when it's done right - I'm talking about Villalobos or the Romanians here, Hawtin's plong stuff still is dreadfully boring.

As a producer he sucks in my opinion. Spastik is inmensely overrated and only the poison pro remix stands, credits for him because maybe in 1993 when i think it was released was amazing. |
What the fucking fuck are you talking about, you have literally have absolutely no fucking clue what you are talking about. Have you even listened to 1/10th of his discography? Plastikman is one of the most influential techno projects of all time and while some of it hasn't aged so well, a huge amount of it still stands up today. Even if you think it sucks by todays standards (it doesn't), he has secured his place in the electronic music hall of fame just by historica significance. And let's not forgot stuff like FUSE, which is just flat out a masterpiece, period.
