Pfft, Malek, the French penalty goal resulted because of a dive. So STFU.

the matter of the fact is the Aussie player should not have been in the way unless he was able to get a cleaner slide tackle, but when Grosso saw his chances at a goal were slim he seemed to CHOOSE to trip and take advantage of the situation. Technically, you can consider it a foul... but when a player does something like that I consider it a dive.

And what bothers me most is the fact that a soon as he hears the whistle, him and his team mates begin to celebrate and the italian players crouch down to congradulate him on his performance.

I saw Grosso's chances as much better than you describe them, and after having watched him score now twice since that game I am sure we can agree, he is a threat from 10 feet away.

I dunno if you played soccer, BUT, when your team is in the 'desparate" minutes of a game that determines whether you go on in a tournament and your team gets a penalty kick....YOU ARE VERY HAPPY, and you don't hide it (unless you are teh designated PK taker, and you are scared and nervous) but on teh whole you are very happy. OF course they would congratulate his performance, he is a defender who managed to run the entire length of teh field, with the ball, get around three guys, get fouled, get a penalty kick....and then WIN THE GAME.

AT least you can admit your bitterness, most won't. Squeezed maybe, but who, if they won, would not have been considered "squeezed"?

The only team who comfortably handled all of their games was Germany, and they lost in a great game. France, Italy, England, SPain, POtugal, BRazil - all had their moments, but weren't always dominating.

Cinema - tiring really everytime I hear this, Portugal and Germany by far more obvious, more pathetic, in their diving than any other team. SInce we are on the topic - Ballack, BRUTAL, seems like all he did was try to get calls....

Did you know that every italian soccer player took diving lessons before joining their national team

Shots on Target: Italy 1 - France 5
Shots off target : Italy 2 - France 8

in total 3 shots by Italy and 13 by France I'd say Italy got lucky
plus no game is a good game that goes into Penalty Shots

A truly solid addition to this conversation!...weak

3 shots, 2 goals one taken away, as a ratio that is....ITALY WON!.

Clearly FIFA is comfortable with the idea that penalties ARE the way to end a game of two strong teams...

you are kind of all over the place with that one dude, sorry...in the end Italy wins.

wrong.

the only thing the french did throughout the whole tournament that could be considered a dive (although it still wouldve been a call, just not a yellow card) would be that free kick they got against spain when henry was nudged in the chest and held his face.

...and then there was that gimme in the finals that was a dive that resulted in a PK/goal...but other than that I would actually agree that the French team plays quite clean...except Zidane of course.

Latest Amendment of the FIFA Disciplinary Code May Result to Italy to Give Up World Cup Title

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Boston, MA, United States, 07/13/2006 - On last 28 March 2006, an Amendment to article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary added few lines about discrimination. If confirmed of any discrimination, Azzurri player, Marco Materazzi could face serious sanctions. Italy then may be deducted 3 points.

[NewswireTODAY FirstCall] - On last 28 March 2006, an Amendment to article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary added few lines about discrimination.

The following could cause Italy to loose the title.

Part IV: If any player, association or club official or spectator perpetrates any kind of discriminatory or contemptuous act as described by par. 1 and/or 2 of this article, THREE points will automatically be deducted from the team concerned.

Amendment to article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code
Non discrimination

Part. I:
Anyone who publicly disparages, discriminates against or denigrates someone in a defamator manner on account of race, colour, language, religion or ethnic origin, or perpetrates any other discriminatory and/or contemptuous act, will be subject to match suspension for at least five matches at every level. Furthermore, a stadium ban and a fine of at least CHF 20,000 will be imposed on the perpetrator. If the perpetrator is an official, the fine will be at least CHF 30,000.

Part. II:
If spectators display banners bearing discriminatory slogans, or are guilty of any other discriminatory and/or contemptuous behaviour at a match, the appropriate body will impose a sanction of at least CHF 30,000 on the association or club that the spectators concerned support and force it to play its next official match without spectators. If the spectators cannot be identified as supporters of one or the other association or club, the host association or club will be sanctioned accordingly.

Part. III:
Any spectator who is guilty of any of the offences specified under par. 1 and/or 2 of this article will be banned from entering any stadium for at least two years.

Part. IV:
If any player, association or club official or spectator perpetrates any kind of discriminatory or contemptuous act as described by par. 1 and/or 2 of this article, three
points will automatically be deducted from the team concerned, if identifiable, after the first offence. In the case of a second offence, six points will automatically be deducted, and for a further offence, the team will be relegated. In the case of matches without points, the team concerned, if identifiable, will be disqualified.

Part. V:
The confederations and associations are required to incorporate the provisions of this article in their statutes and to enforce the sanctions stipulated. If any association infringes this article, it will be excluded from international football for two years. Source: FIFA

Zidane is better known for his sportsmanship and dancer-like style with the ball. He is a national hero for the French and a symbol of a young, multicultural France. Born to Algerian immigrants, Zidane grew up playing on concrete in an impoverished neighborhood of Marseille, South of France.

"My act is not forgivable," Zidane said. "But they must also punish the true guilty party, and the guilty party is the one who provokes."

Materazzi has acknowledged he insulted Zidane, without giving specifics. At nearly the same moment Zidane was live on French TV, excerpts from an interview that Materazzi gave were posted on an Italian paper's Website.
