Oh, and may I point out that all the men in power in democracies are usually people who have an education grounded in social science? How often do you see a chemical engineer become the prime Minister of Canada? Probably never...it's always lawyers, scholars and businessmen who run countries.

so the be all and end all is being in politics?


engineers have extremely high rates of becoming CEO's whish is nothing to scoff at, and in a time of a global economy that is often a more powerful position than being in politics (this coming from a poli sci major)

Well, see...countries with a past to be proud of (like Canada, Britain, European nations, and to some extent the USA)....well our countries aren't a bloody mess because the scholars and politicians have looked at our past, recognised what was wrong and made sure it never happened (or may happen) again.

no, it's not the be all and end all...but political positions are far more important than being an executive at Nortel (like my uncle). Politicians directly influence our lives and shape our future and to do that effectively, they should know their history well. What I'm doing here is refuting Stereo Princess's foolish comment that all historian's do is analyse the past and have no use in present day. What an idiotic thing to say.
