first of all, what's up with the immaturity in this thread?! gawd.. and why am i not surprised it was started by a fanboy

anyway, disappointing match from the azzurri,. really was expecting a lot more.. americans got lucky with that autogoal and then really fought with all they've got..very good try by the US.

pope tackling from behind was completely stupid and obv. unnecessary. he really should have known better and the ref was correct on the red card calls IMO.. and then, in the 2nd half, the ref just completely missed such obvious calls, it was ridiculous! such inconsistency, he completely overlooked rly obvious calls such as shirt pulling from US (automatic yellow card) and the handball italy did.

what amazed me was italy's possession over most of the 2nd yet was unable to rock any decent shots.. crap game but i was happy to see the americans fight with all they had with 2 men down- if anyone was given that scenario of US with 2 men down and italy with 1, they would have called it a USA suicide mission but boy, with a lil luck and a lot of effort they really held up. not only was the autogoal luck but also the fact that the ref was handing out cards like confetti so italy was taking out players in fear of losing them to more yellow (and hence, red) cards so that's why totti and the like were taken out- cant risk them being suspended for the CR game next week (also contributing to why they werent doing so well).

good work usa, try harder italy..

side note: i dont think the US is fast enough for Ghana.

IMO the only thing questionable about the ref was when he deliberately stopped handing out free kicks and cards in the second half in a desparate attempt to balance out the match and get some free flowing football. There were so many bad tackles that game.

edit : yes I watched the Ghana game today and they were amazing, ripped the czechs appart. The deciders in this round are going to be fun.

You know it, I watch the Serie A but never knew Italians flopped like a fish out of water when touched. At any rate the U.S. isn't advancing Marie, I'm rooting for Ghana to advance but I would be more worried about France.

Interesting point, both reyna and Oguchi Onyewu will not be playing in the third game. US loses a good defender in onyewu but look for beasley and eddie johnson to be running and gunning in the final game as starting positions.

Yes, USA really played a tough game today proving they are in fact one of the most physical teams in the WC... Someone also said mentioned something about being laughed at for saying this was the group of death. I can only agree with you on that one as well, I'm not surprised by how close this group is, because I knew the americans were no cake... I'm shocked at group C though because both the argentinian and dutch really made it look easy

Ghana is playing without Asamoah Gyan (Man of the Match today) and Muntari. Both goalscorers today..

You're not alone about that one, but I'm very happy that he kept on playing and almost scored the deciding goal. Very strong will from him and thumbs up for him

I also see Czech Republic and Italy going all out because second place gets a golden ticket to face brazil in the next round (if brazil fulfills) LOL

I was rooting more for the U.S. in that I am here in the U.S. and would like to see the game grow to a higher level, as for beating Ghana I doubt it, they are missing two players I believe but the may just need Essien in that game when you consider the U.S. is too slow to counter. I was practically shouting profanity at my HDTV telling them to counter faster instead it was like watching paint dry.

WOW!?? you're kidding me?

I missed the first half of the Ghana matchup....wow im totally surprised now and eagerly wait the final game!

The US didn't really lose goal scorers for the next game but did lose some defenders and the team captain
