Caught only the very end of J00F's set which sounded great btw. Rank 1 kicked ass! Our little group of 3 all thought CL's set was really boring - "the same song the whole set" - and the worst we've heard from him. The order of the lineup didn't make any sense either (J00F - Rank 1 - CL - Ferry). It just messed up the flow. I'm glad to hear people enjoyed the show though and thought things were better organized. Unfortunately, things were disorganized and there were screwups behind the scenes. I felt bad for the artists who had to deal with them.
I'll check the video I took of Rank 1 to see if it's good enough to post. Kittycrush got more Rank 1 videos but I'm not sure if she's gonna post them.

replied to your PM. have some really good videos i'll upload them tonight.
Was really bummed that I missed Filo & Peri's set, thanks to 3 hours in traffic from LA to San Bernardino! That's LA for ya, rush hour traffic on Saturday afternoon...but looking on the bright side, at least I'm not still sitting in it on the way over to Nocturnal!
Had thought we'd be checking into the Hilton way earlier and getting to Nocturnal around 6, but instead got there around 8:30 p.m. The line to get in was a breeze, since there wasn't any at VIP!
As mentioned earlier, the VIP bar was a mess though...was that way a few years ago but so much better last year, now back to the really long lines again. I guess maybe the second VIP area by the Labyrinth stage was supposed to make things better, but I didn't discover it until after waiting in line a few times at the main bar.
The buffet was good, but not as many choices as last year. Then again, what VIP ticket ever offers you a full dinner? Only Nocturnal, to their credit.
The merchandise situation really pissed me off...I'm a tshirt junkie and go for good designs on a quality shirt. When I saw this really cool Nocturnal logo on an American Apparel shirt, I really wanted one, but then the guy hands me this Anvil brand tshirt instead. Anvil is cheaper material, does not fit me very well and was the same price as the American Apparel shirts! I went to three different merchandise stands to see if they had any men's American Apparel shirts, but it was the same everywhere, only the women's shirts were printed on American Apparel...this probably doesn't matter much to others, but they did such a great job with the shirts at EDC, dunno what happened...
Onto the music, Piet of Rank 1 was bangin the tracks when I got to the Labyrinth stage...he did play a lot of Rank 1 "classic" tracks, and his set got really good toward the end! I liked the first track that Chris Lawrence played, but not so much after that. Not a very big CL fan here, I guess you really like his music or you don't, so left for the restrooms and on the way ran into several TA's, which was great!
One big difference between the Labyrinth stage at Nocturnal and the Coliseum at EDC is that there was only one way to enter and exit the Labyrinth stage. That area was a big "bottle neck" with dust everywhere, and you had to go through it to reach the restrooms, which were on the other side. Not sure if it's logistically possible, but would be better if there were multiple entrances/exits or closer restrooms...I could tell that some people had peed on the walls below the bleachers rather than going around to the restrooms...ewwwwww!
Came back to the big stage just in time for Ferry Corsten, and the floor was really packed! It looked a lot like EDC to me, and I wondered how many people were at Nocturnal this year...the big stage was so packed and there were still all these other stages too! Must be a record or something, I'm guessing.
Ferry also played a lot of "classic" tracks during his set. I prefer sets with more new music and a few strong classics thrown in here and there, but this seems pretty typical of a massive. I guess if the DJ's don't play most of their famous tracks, then the crowd keeps asking for them. Ferry looked really happy up there on the stage, and the crowd was pretty nice, not much pushing, shoving, etc. except closer to end of the night.
Getting out of Nocturnal had to be one of the worst experiences ever though...my friend had forgot his cell phone so we couldn't text each other and turned out he had already left earlier in the night. I walked outside through the main VIP area, turned right and kept walking...and walking...and walking...and walking up to a street light but no taxis in sight or they were full. Walked all the way around to the other side and asked one of the security guys where to wait for a taxi...he said "you're not gonna like this, but it's all the way around the other side, by gates 7 and 8." So I kept walking...and walking...and walking...back almost to where I started over to gate 8, but still couldn't find any taxis.
Walked back to the intersection where the Fire Dept. was, figured that would be a safe place to wait since the police were there. Turns out the police had already gone home though! Called a taxi company and was told that it's too difficult to get one by phone, just wait for the next one and flag them down...several in the area were looking for passengers. Waited almost another hour and saw about 10 taxis, but they were either full or someone already grabbed them. When I finally got a taxi, the driver complained that he was looking for other passengers who had called for a ride, but couldn't find them! Was back at the hotel in 10 minutes after he showed up.
Nocturnal is an event where a lot of people drink, etc. and I'm sure that many people take taxis, it's probably even encouraged if there's not a designated driver. Problem is that people can't find any taxis, and the taxi drivers can't find the people! LAX handles this by putting up a big TAXI sign outside the terminals, so you just go wait there. Seems that Nocturnal could do the same thing, put some cones out with yellow TAXI signs and let them line up to get people out quickly and save everyone a lot of hassle, then put this location on the map. Might have saved me a couple of hours and a lot of frustration...
Overall, it was a good night with good music. Here are some pics:
The entrance was a breeze, maybe because i entered around 5PM. Security was overall tighter than any other massives. Had my shoes taken off. Wonder how much weed and e did the Security firm take.
Portable toilets were very clean, mainly because they were a little further i think. Cleaner than EDC or Monster!
The upsidedown room lacked serious AC or Fan, the room had to be constantly over 90 degrees even into the night... Think that might have been the only room that had me away.
Main stage was good. Even into Ferry it wasn't that packed. Not like EDC. The entrance to Main stage was a drag, ppl jumping the little wall, the dirt, ppl falling down... Main stage lacked a little light, it was pitch dark on the sides and seriously, I tripped over on 3 group of ppl sitting in the middle of the floor. I think the security should walk around asking ppl to sit outside of the stage so they don't get hurt and we don't get hurt
Usually all massives brings tons of traffic and long lines. This is what we usually do.
We get there early, do a little preparty at the parking lot. Then get in line for super fast walk in. Then we usually leave 1 hr earlier than the closing time, regardless of whos closing. We know if we left at 4AM, we wouldn't be able to actually get out till 5:30AM... So we go early leave early. Works out fine so far.
over all, yes, will go to nocturnal again!!
