You're ruining my LOL'09 experience!

BTW, my favorite LOL was 2007, when MSTRKRFT first played in the tent, the whole reason I went really, first time seeing them and was really into that sound at the time. They were at the pinacle of IMO their career sound wise, I can still vividly remember them pouring crown into the mouths of all the hipsteravers and throwing out cans of henikens... then dropping the Music Sounds Better With Paris bootleg and the place erupted and then tent almost blew off! It was hot as a muthafucka in there but no one cared! Tenaglia was dope and the closing of Skybar by DeKoze was ace!

hence why I am saying it COULD be better.. if Guv actually took risks and brought some new talent and experimented with different line-ups at all-access events

Knox - lol, are we paying $45+ bucks for a bunch of baloons and go-go dancers or quality music?

Labour of Love is the gateway event for people getting into the scene. I'm sure we've all noticed the amount of newcomers each and every year. Plus, how many times have you heard stories of friends who have been partying for a few years who started off at Labour of Love? My guess is more than a few.

The way I see it, Labour of Love is what keeps the fresh faces coming into the scene each year. Once those people have a great time at Labour of Love, they will start downloading music, educating themselves, and eventually attending more "underground" parties. Parties like Labour of Love are necessary to keep even the more underground parties going.

What makes Labour of Love appealing is it's size and how epic it is. In order to draw a big crowd like that, you need names that appeal more to the mainstream. You're not going to fill the place with random names that nobody but scenesters know about. An event like Labour of Love with less known names is impossible. It wouldn't be what it was with out the mob of crowds that DJs like Armin and Guetta bring.

As far as the comparison with Europe...

Toronto is spoiled and does have an amazing scene. A few years ago before I started travelling, I used to whine and complain about Toronto's scene too. Since then, I've partied in London, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Greece and the US. I've seen some of the world's best clubs and attended some of the world's best festivals. And in doing so, it only made me realize how amazing we have it in this city. The Guvernment is up there with the best super clubs in the world. Toronto has a good variety of DJs, parties and clubs which provide a wide variety of different experiences.

Our scene is great for a city our size by global standards, but especially in North America. It is not fair to compare Toronto to London, Berlin, or New York because we are a smaller and completely different city.

Many of you are confusing your own boredom with how good our scene is. For those of us who have been partying for more than a few years, of course Labour of Love is going to lack appeal to us. But that goes the same for anywhere else:

Ask Spaniards how tired they are of Sonar
Ask Germans how tired they are of Timewarp
Ask Brits how tired they are of Global Gathering

Many of these big festivals have very similar line-ups each year, for the same reason Labour of Love does: to draw big crowds. A few more reasons is because it is expensive to bring lesser known DJs all across the globe and clubs here have established relationships with certain booking companies. Therefore, if you're looking to see a DJ you've never seen before, or a DJ that doesn't come to Toronto often headline a big party, you're probably going to have to travel for it.

The scene in Toronto is great, so stop complaining. How would you like to live in Thunder Bay and see what their scene is like?

Exactly! $15/20 for main room one/headliners. For an extra 20/25$ you've got the whole complex... multiple Djs and talent... plus they do up the place and decorate, entertainment outside.... its a big event hence the higher price.

you missed my point...

i'm speaking about the price and rationalizing it....

...not talking about music quality
