An interesting segue. Because not only is the "how do you know the origins of the product?" point rather valid, but the slave/sex trade is a pervasive export of countries that provide extremely low opportunities and education for women. Marcus, start changing the laws of your country right away, so that you can end this horrible thing that is happening!

I'm not sure I follow you...

But I'm for the legalisation of prostitution here (which would let the government supervise how the market works here more efficiently).

I'm proud to say that when I was living in Canada, every drug I took was not imported but from there. I respect your views Lira, and some things make a lot of sense, but most of it is a pipe dream at best. It shows that you have had a brush-up with the drug element in regards to your fiance with the voracity of your posts which is out of character with how you usually carry yourself around here. I don't think you will, because you most likely would have by now, but it would be interesting to hear a brief explanation of exactly what happened.

Also: what about prescription drugs? There are tons made in Mexico to cut costs. These drugs are peddled illegally by the same people selling the drugs that you admonish. Prescription medication addiction is a bigger problem than cocaine and heroin.

Prostitution is by and large an unregulated black market that deals in sexual slavery the world over. It hurts millions of women, and most of them are victims not only of the practice and its physical dangers and indentured nature, but of the societies that gave them so little options and education to lead different lives.

And many people are for the legalization of illicit substances in their own countries. That doesn't mean that the morally self-righteous don't get their say when they fail to admit that it is a complex issue bereft of black and white attributes.

I used to buy pot from this really grubby fellow who holed up in a tiny bedroom of his mother's house. She had Alzheimer's, and her husband had died, so when she couldn't keep a job, she kept her son close, who could afford to pay the mortgage along with her disability check so they could keep their home. It was small, but the downstairs was well kept and curtained. She had another son, but he was imprisoned for manslaughter, so some help he was! This guy couldn't get a steady job because of his own criminal past, but he was perfectly content to peddle weed to take care of him and his mother. His pot smelt of blueberries - and sometimes even bubblegum! - but it wasn't quality enough that you'd believe it was local hydro, and he sure as fuck didn't grow it himself, so where did he get it? Well fuck, you don't ask that sort of thing unless you're a cop, so you make with the cash and go home.

Is this the sort of thing I am to be sorry about? Because the many, many hands that move a product one way each have a story to tell, and so very few of them have a thing to do with kidnapping or decapitation any more than you have to do with the abuse at Foxconn.

Ah yes, the Yukon Coca. Elusive, but hardy.

Lira, don't try and claim you are not acting high and mighty when you start a discussion with this kind of post:

quote:
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you use drugs before they're legalised. You fucking sponsor these criminal ****s!

Judgemental and patronising at the same time.

As has been said, your arguments are naive at best and fantastical at worst. It is very clear that us boycotting drugs for the reasons you have given is going to make no practical difference to the problem whatsoever. As such, any boycotting would be purely a moral objection, a gesture made more to make us feel better than to have any real world impact. This is why it makes no logical sense to say boycotting drugs is more important than boycotting Coca Cola or Adidas because the scale of the latter's crimes are less significant. Public objection to major corporations may actually make some small difference, because corporations at least care about their public image and will make at least token gestures at self-improvement in the face of intense public criticism, whereas drug cartels in Mexico could not give a fuck.

That's just horrible. Telling addicts basically to just go die. I'm lucky that I'm no addict and never have been, but I know people who have, and it usually has a root cause (abuse, poverty, depression or other undiagnosed illness) that is out of the control of the addict.

FFS, they are human beings. I agree with the War on drugs being retarded, but you are really pissed at the wrong people, here. If we treated addicts for underlying causes instead of like criminals (or like disposable garbage), we might actually improve the situation.

Make drugs myself?! You a wizard? Cause, you gotta tell me if you are.

Hey Carlos, come over here man. Check it, didja know that like instead of you know buying illegal drugs, we could like make 'em ourselves, man. We could make 'em just like they make 'em. With you know, chemistry or something. Science stuff. I know. Blows my mind, too.

And man, I had another epiphany. Did you know that airplanes are just buses with wings?
