what do you do for work richard? |
I am self employed - I have a small boring business, but it has the advantage of me only needing to do a few days actual work per month, although I sit in the business day to day. Essentially I arrange complicated mortgage deals for example for someone to buy a small farm or something.
These complicated cases pay a big fat fee of like $10,000, but the downside is it is stressful as things can and do go wrong at any moment so I'm often in a state of some angst. So even though it pays well, most people don't survive in this line of work as they cannot take the constant worry of loosing deals as so many things can cause the deal to go pop. So you can one minute have 'made' $30,000 and the next lost it. It's a roller coaster ride for me, but overall I like this way of life as I can earn a decent income for not that much work.
I think it's this background that makes me have this somewhat brutal outlook I have as I'm used to the hunt out on the plains where the law of the jungle applies.
I don't really get why msz said this is an appauling attitude? It's just me being honest about my world outlook, is that so bad a thing? He doesn;t care that most aurthors never make it, so why on Earth should there be any kind of moral crusade when it comes to music making? To me it's all one lore of the jungle and most won't make it.
I do get this sense that some producers feel some kind of entitlment to recognition for thier work almost as a Human right.
If that makes me appauling, so be it, I can live with that for sure.

In terms of jobs, i would say i have more respect for a plumber than someone that makes money from money. YOu gets nada. no respect. nuh uh. So fuck you. |
Plumbers are Gods compared to me. My Brother calls me a commission crow picking over the bones.
In terms of what I do, people of sound means (not penniless desperados) come to me when all the Banks decline them because they have complex scenarious - say they are aged 60, getting divorced, just changed jobs, maybe 3 income streams, buying a house with a restaurant attatched to it etc.
A typical client profile would be a small business owner that earns well but that does not 'fit the mould'.
I arrange the deal with the very Banks who verbally declined them, but I show the client how to position thier deal better, how to present thier best face. So without me they end up having to rent a house forever, sucking a landlords dick.
With me, they part with a chunk of cash but they get to fulfil thier dreams, so I think they win. I'm very straight and just right off the bat tell em I'm gonna charge a big whack, yet most are perfectly happy. I dislike people like me who pretend they are doing it for free, but really build in a hidden fee somewhere.
But your'e right, it's not a job I'd recommend to anyone.
The only plus side as I say, is plenty of free time and no boss to worry about. I could never work for anyone, I always dreamed of working for myself.
