I couldn't have planned this any better! Please don't cry, I'll see you next time!

Edit: in all serious though, I meant what I sent you. I have seen and improvement, I think this thread is proof of it. If you hadn't dug in your heels and made the capital mistake, no pun intended, of patronizing me you might have made it out unscathed.

Find me a written "overconsume" used in an economic context before 2007. I'll be here all day.

Here's one from 1996: https://www.sciencedirect.com/scien...921800995000763

Here's probably a few dozen more: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?...900&as_yhi=2006

Obviously not all the results will be relevant, but a lot of them are.

I know your grasp of English is pretty limited, but you can last at least a few seconds into an academic paper, can't you?
quote:
This paper examines a static, competitive economy where the production of a consumption good generates pollution that adversely affects human welfare. Preferences are defined over consumption, leisure, pollution, and economic status. Each person's status increases with her own consumption, but decreases with the average consumption of society. The achievement of a Pareto efficient resource allocation requires a consumption tax to offset the incentive to overconsume in the pursuit of enhanced status.

That clear enough for you?

By the way, I specifically did the search with "overconsume" within quote marks, meaning 100% of the results feature that exact term.

Ok now that we've established it's an economics term, can you guys answer my math question? If you produce x, how do you consume more than x?

This is gonna get so good.

You eat into reserves. I produced 100 widgets last year and used up 50 of them. Then I produced another 100 widgets this year and used up 125 widgets. So I consumed 125% of the widgets that I produced this year. Magic? No, I just used some of the ones left over from last year.

That's usually roughly the environmentalist argument, btw. That we are chipping away at the earth's "reserves," its ability to absorb our level of consumption. Obviously the above pattern of widget consumption is unsustainable if continued indefinitely.

I'm gonna try not make the same mistake as these nerds and not be a dick just for the sake of being a dick, but did you read anything at all I posted in this thread? You just made my whole argument for me. Money talks, bullshit walks. That's how it goes, son.

Christ on bike! You’re still arguing with this moron. I’ve got him on ignore but even the occasional quote that gets through is too much. I get the appeal of using him for an intellectual whipping post but please stop.

Anyone normal person would have stopped challenging you after the beating they’ve taken but he seems utterly delighted anyone would take the time to debate him on his half baked scatter brain ideas. I don’t know why the dumber someone is the more arrogant they become.

I’m off to the beach today and will be watching the game tomorrow. Please carry on.
