No, but really, what are you arguing anyway? That just because it's electronic, it can't have anything in common with an outside genre? And why do you say it (and by 'it', I mean... oh hell, you should learn the difference between EDM and electronic music in general, so set that straight first) is much like classical music?

god .. people need to chill and sit back and relax .. you have to look at the word edm (electronic dance music), and think about the pioneers that built it from the 70s disco to the 80s breaks to the 90s instant classic club burners ..

i do agree that there is a misconception to the term "edm", because you can't really dance to ambient, acid jazz, and top40 4/4 beats .. .. but it's something to chill and listen to .. it's not about the dancing and thinking you're all cool because you listen to the edm, just like the rap lovers think they're cool, because they listen to the "underground hip hop/rap" stuff .. it all goes down to the basics of how to use the electronics in the songs artists produce .. the synths .. the beats .. the bass .. the strings .. the 'cussion .. anything that makes an electronic sound ..

Yes. Still don't see what that has to do with classical music though.

I'm siding with Ory on this one (gasp).

A) as for me schooling you in hip-hop, I never said I would, and I am also not originally from the UK, but not all hip-hip is commercialised blingbling, that's like saying all trance is DJ Sammy

B) EDM and Electronic ARE different genre's, as the D in EDM means dance, and the Electronic music that you can't dance do therefore does not fit into that category.

C) EDM is more like classical? lol, right, if you equate hard house/gabba/hardstyle with classical, you need to reassess your musical opinion.

Why do you have to be so picky. I know that all EDM is not like classical and I never said it was. I said a lot of the compositions in EDM is like classical. Mostly progressive and trance compositions.

But progressive and trance make up only a small part of EDM as a whole, and as such your statement was incorrect.

they are in that they are instrumentally based, but if your talking about the structure of classical music, then no.

but personally I think the spirit of the classical style lives on through a lot of electronica. mostly the earlier stuff (BT i think is a good example)where the purpose is to acheive an emotional affect from musical machines.

but much of the electronica of late (especially EDM) has become less about the emotion and more about the instant gratification and dancability. which is assumed since it's EDM.
