you have it in your mind, instictively, to assume that the upper 1/3 of the building has little to do with the structural integrity of the lower 2/3's when, IN FACT, in a building like the WTC (a purely exoskeleton design) when the top of the building is no longer connected to the rest most if not all of the original integrity becomes non-existent.
