You might mean the XMMS logo?

Thanks.

Yup, St_Andrew guessed it right. XMMS (which is like winamp 2.x for linux). I also have a seperate wallpaper for every desktop which is kinda nice. They give the desktops a different feel. On desktop one, I run Azureus and browse through my files, desktop 2, xmms and mp3 folders, desktop 4, instant messenger and firefox, desktop 4, command line and coding. But I thought posting 4 different screen shots would be a little excessive .

Oh what the hell, here's a follow up . As you noticed, I changed the taskbar placing. It feels more natural to pop up on the top left rather than the bottom left. I also got a better wallpaper for my command line desktop :

Are there any good review sites besides anandtech and tomshardware? I'm thinking about a new mobo.

So I tried running mp3directcut with wine but the drop down menus don't appear which makes it useless since I can't open or save files. I got the software from the software download section on TA. Any of you guys got any suggestions on how to get it to work properly?

You've really tried 10+ distros in 2 years?

yep.

knoppix is a livecd, so that didnt require alot of investigation.

i was on xandros 2 for a long time, then upgraded to 3 its just terrible. buggy, glitchy and boring.

fedora cores the second worst. it was eating up system resources worse than windows ever did. the way you had to get online was a pain in the ass. i actually found it was easier to convert rpm files into deb files [deb files are used for debian systems] and use them on debian systems. to those who dont understand, thats like saying it would be easier to play a ps2 game on your pc than on your ps2.

suse could be great, but its just not. i have hope for it one day though, but right now i wouldnt touch it unless paid.

anonymos is another live cd. and its terrible. BSD is not made for live cds.

pcbsd is interesting, but right now i wouldnt suggest it. however, by version 4 if it ever makes it, watch out. its not a linux killer, but it could introduce alot of ppl to BSD systems.

slackwares just out of my abilities right now. flat out, ill admit it.

vectors based off of slackware, but is supposed to be more noob friendly. its not. was it fast? yes. stable? appeared to be. but vector refuses to reach out to the newb market. i dont know why. lets face it: most ppl dont know the commands needed to set up internet connections from commandline. that right there, the lack of wizard for internet connection setup, killed it imo.

ubuntu is by far the worst. it claims ease of use. it claims its made for humans. nope. it had the same problem vecotr did: didnt have a wizard to set up internet connections. some might see this as a small problem. i however see it as amatuer hour bullshit. dsl/cable arent fads, start making wizards for them for gods sake.

simplymepis has all the program you need as a basic OS straight off the bat. if you want to upgrade, you can use synaptic or apt-get. you can convert almost any rpm file into a deb and have it working in seconds. its just outstanding.

seriously, if you want to get on linux like on a dual boot, or if youre already on it all the way and are looking for another distro, simplymepis is where its at. all you need is the iso and one cd and youre ready.

I'm still contemplating what distro I should use for a dual boot. As of now I have three OS partitions, one with Windows XP and two each with TinyXP (for benchmarking, tweaking, stress testing, etc.)

I have a bunch of live cd's but it's just not the same as having a dedicated partition.
