This is quite possibly the funniest thread I've ever seen in my entire life, and yes I know, I'm not that old, but holy fucking crap...

It's not a thread anymore, more of a pandaemonium where multiple noisy voices can be heard in a brilliant non-sense cacophony.

of course a DJ always try to make something new, even most of them are not but the proof is there are a lot of subgenre these days. DJ is the one who invent HIP-HOP, techno, drum n bass, house, electro-house, neo-trance, hard house, and many more. the invention is not by the musician, but by the DJ's.

fucking idiot.

I believe something standard hardly can be considered as art.

if you considered EVERYTHING in this earth is an art, then you must go to the psychology and check your mental there. theres something wrong with your art taste.

sitting is an art, standing is an art, walking is an art, drinking milk is an art, your asshole is an art and your shit is an art.

???

the way you construct your sentences might be considered abstract art

Who was that one guy who would rant on and on about the Tiesto song that didn't exist???

That guy was by far the most entertaining TA ever...

Tiesto- Fly!!! haha

Anyway, I still dont think this thread is THAT bad...because frankly alot of people think they're DJ's and in my eyes dont really fit the bill compared to those who take the extra leap to make something musical really come from the decks\computer program or what have you.

So, I find it interesting that people especially DJ's on this thread would merley find this topic to be a joke, because with all the competition there is, perhaps if we want to make something of ourselves we should be taking it as seriously as a classical instrument and applying the same amount of time, practice and in fact "skill", which is what this thread is all about.

Yes, but still, it is as biased to compare djing with musicianship as it is to compare a mechanic with a football-player. The fact that both djing and musicianship are concerned with music doesn't mean that they can be directly compared, not at all, a comparison like that is inherently biased.

Each one is a completely different thing. They both have their own specific domain-specific performance.Yes they both need skill and time to develop but the so-called "skill" of one represents quite different abilities in comparison to the "skill" of the other . Football,Tennis,Chess and Tetris players need time and practice in order to develop their "skills" but that doesn't mean that we can directly compare them. This would be seriously flawed. A football player needs to develop his perceptual and motor abilities as well as his masculature and overall fitness whereas a chess-player needs to sustain a large long-term memory of semantic information of previous games and positions and to flexibly apply problem-solving and reasoning skills.

The same applies to DJing and playing and Instrument.

An instrumemtalist should have a good knowledge of music theory, a good memory of what everything sounds in relation to another, and should apply and convert this knowledge in real-time fast motor responses while receiving feedback from his/her own playing. This real-time "sensori-motor" coordination and concurrent real-time applying of music-theory from memory can be very demanding. This is possibly the reason that an instrumentalist-e.g. a pianist-could take many many years to develop his/her skills. A Djs abilities are mostly based in his musical taste and love for good music,in building a good flow with that music (good building of tension and release), in coordinating good beat-matching, in "reading" a crowds reactions and responding accordingly. It's quite evident that these two are very different domains. They are both demanding but in different aspects.
