Figures of authority have been put there for a reason, and you might find this hard to swallow, but it's for YOUR own good.

I don't conform for the sake of conforming, you're throwing in things you've made up. I see a lot of point in doing what I'm told to do. People haven't made the rules purely for the sake of pissing me off, they've done it for the benefit of society as a whole.

The big advantage of my conforming is that no one tazers me, no one locks me in prison and I get the satisfaction that I'm functioning as a decent and respected member of society.

Your attitude, much the same as my rather juvenile younger brother, is typical of this belief these days that rules ARE meant to be broken, and it's your right to do WHATEVER you want. You cannot.

Grow up!

Jarv

You know it would be a great post, this one, if you were right about my attitude. As far as making up the conforming for conformity's sake, it was what i deduced from your post. If the hat fits my friend then wear it.
quote:

If a figure of authority asks me to do something I do it.

It's a good rule to live by and you end up leading a simpler life for it.

This is what you said. From this statement my deduction is a valid one. It doesn't say " I find that accepting rules in society, when they are valid, makes for smoother interaction with my peers, which in turn enhances my quality of life ". It says, i conform, because i can't be bothered to do other wise, even if what I'm conforming to is unreasonable.
And as far as rules being meant to be broken, I do believe that rules are set for good purposes, but if a rule is unreasonable or useless than it shouldn't be a rule and I will always stand against it. Not just for nonconformity's sake, but for the sake of reason, justice, utility or whatever label you wish to put on it.

Thank you for highlighting that you 'made up' the can't be bothered bit. What I actually said, as you rightly pointed out, was :

Albeit an incorrect one!! Deduce all you like, fact is you got it wrong. Because you assumed.

And I said society, I made absolutely NO mention of peers. Two rather different things. Another falsification you added, presumably to make your post look like it had more substance.

Jarv

PS I'm not your friend. You made that up too.

For those of you that still don't think this is 'political', it's sure starting to turn into one and fast...

Cries for the cops and military recruiters to leave campus by the students:

I'm sure the LA Gangs will love that.
In fact, that's a great idea, lets see what happens with NO cops and see how long that lasts before someone gets killed or raped.
I'm sure this tasering 'injustice' will look pale in comparison with the cries of, 'Where are the cops when you need them'.

...and of course the MSM (Main Stream Media) is eating up this photo:

CAIR of course has to stick their nose into it since he was Iranian and Mostafa alleges racial profiling:
quote:

CAIR: ISLAMIC LEADERS CALL FOR PROBE OF STUDENT TASERING

Southern California Islamic leaders are calling for an independent investigation into Tuesday night's incident at the UCLA library where campus police apparently stunned a student with a "Taser" gun.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations urged "state and national authorities, including the FBI" to investigate the incident involving the 23-year-old Mostafa Tabatabainejad.

A camera phone captured Tabatabainejad being stunned repeatedly after he allegedly refused repeated requests to show his student I-D and would not leave a campus library.

Campus officials are investigating the incident.

But the American-Islamic relations group says an outside probe's needed to make sure the case's "civil rights aspects" are taken seriously.

>>Source<<

I'm really surprised the ACLU hasn't touched this one (they probably want money).

In short, the student should have gotten up and complied when he was asked several times.

I agree with an investigation into the conduct; if it turns out that the cops need training or something, then fine, however, that shouldn't act as a green light shining on Mostafa either when he was clearly in the wrong to begin with.

He can speculate on their choosing of him during their random check all he wants however when authority does show up and asks something, you'd better answer...

Oh yea, one other thing,

In case you're wondering about the taser...

(Taken from a different tasering incident)
quote:

A Taser shocks in two ways, Sharp said.

It can shoot “probes” – fishhook-like electrical contacts – that penetrate the skin and deliver the shock directly into the muscles, known as “tasing.” Or it can be used in direct contact with the skin, with no penetration, known as “drive stun.”

Hopkins was drive stunned, Sharp said.

“Drive stun is just basic sensory,” he said “It doesn’t affect the central nervous system per se. It’s just on the surface of the skin.”

>>Source<<

I'm thinking most of you are thinking about the movies and how tasers are 'supposed' to make you seize up and convulse uncontrollably.
They 'can' however that's not how they were used with Mostafa, so remember that when making your judgment about the cops and the whimpering you hear from him in the video...

Yes, if you want to go down that road, every time we decode someone else's sentences we're making "assumptions", it's not my fault you couldn't express your point properly. If you don't want people to make false assumptions of what you're trying to say then try constructing your arguments in a more concise way. If you're not willing to do that, then suck it up and stop whining when people don't understand what you're trying to say.

Useless nit picking if you ask me. I think it's pretty straightforward what I meant by peers. Most people you interact with are you're peers in one category or another. I doubt you interact with the whole of society at the same time. As you said, you're just trying to make you're post look like it has substance. Mine had.

Hey Firestarter... how about this:

Why don't you get shocked yourself instead of citing stories about it or making suggestion on which you have no idea what it feels like.

Does it hurt? Hell yes. Last time i got shocked and got dropped to the ground, after about 15 seconds my next words were "Do it again!"

Actually, it's not my fault you decided to see something in my statement that wasn't there. You fabricated what I said, and now I've exposed you! I think you know it too. And why do you use the methods and wording I've used to show you up back at me.... don't have enough wit or brains to come up with your own ideas or argumentative style?

I didn't ask you, but since you bring it up....... I doubt you'll understand this (it's becoming clearer and clearer with each post you make that you're not the sharpest tool in the box) but the whole point of me using the word society as opposed to peers was that peers are my equals, but society is a structured hierarchy of individuals and groups - who all abide by the same rules or law. So, I was doing anything but nit picking, when I highlighted how, once again, you'd totally missed the point of what I'd said, and interpreted a key word in the opposite context of what it actually meant.

I don't like making you look stupid - but you make me do it!

This argument is over, and was only really started because you made a personal critisism about me, when I gave my view on the subject. Remember you called me a pathetic american? You made a sweeping statement about me, and an even worse sweeping statement about Americans.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself!

Jarv
