Lol, apparently 'free play' means "meet up with your friends and try really hard to do lame glitches/tricks" - I've been kicked out of every free play game I've been in.
When my brother gets his new 360 in the mail (see: red ring of death), I'll definitely see about getting in on some free play with you folk, seeing as how anything on the Wii is out of the question.

its looks and feel awesome, i just tried it today for the first time. I really hate the new button config after playing the ohter ones too long. When i get used to that, im sure this will be something i spend way too much time on, even if im not really a gamer.

i just watched a movie about it the tactical stuff is cool. but the pool playing or bowling crap is stupid. cool add on but not cool if it is required to get to the next mission.

you can change the button config to classic, which is think is the same layout as the previous ones.

There is one extra/side/post-main-story mission that was particularly satisfying.
All I'll say is that it pays to just dick-around in the city for quite some time after you've beaten the game - and internet is serious business.

How closely are the neighborhoods mapped to the real Manhattan? Does it drill down to individual neighborhoods like chelsea, murray hill, meatpacking, etc?
Or is it just built around big landmarks like times square, empire state, the MET etc?
