when does anyone ever talk about turkey period on here? (at least definitely not in NYTA..)
my personal experience with the turks here in germany (there are probably around 200-250,000 just in berlin) is that they're completely insanely patriotic about their country, not just around times like this (ie soccer tourneys.) kind of like some of us americans, yano? they can't take a joke about their own country, no matter how light-hearted it is. (and if that's in germany alone, i dont even wanna know how it is in turkey itself!!)
that said, after the germany-turkey game, the turks and germans were really quite friendly, congratulating each other on the win, a game well-played... i had turks coming up to me and hugging me and whatnot, it was really nice! beautiful thing to see such different cultures getting along so well.. that game was definitely a test in cultural/race relations for this city. |
In America ppl dont have that much information about turkey.(My ex girl friend said she never heard such a country in her life.) I had seen some great photos and comments about german spain or any other eu countries but not Turkey. Yet, some ppl consider turkey as an Arab country since I have been living New York. Turkey is a muslim country but is very different than other muslim countries. EU 2008 was a great opportunity for us to show our selves to all over the World. Besides, I believe it will help us to see Turkey as a EU member country one day.

Mehh... you New Yorkers and your baseball!!
Second half just started... gotta go. |
Marco, are you kidding me bro? Leave your damn hotel... there were THOUSANDS of bars and painted up fans enjoying the euro cup in NYC!! Shit, I went to bars in the *preliminary* rounds on a WORKDAY with people all decked out, drunk, and cheering for their team!
(btw with all due respect, it WAS the subway series, so thats more important to a new yorker than, say, when the mets play houston or something!)
