As for not needing a sound card..no you don't. Ive used a PC with no sound card, copied the finish .flp to it and made a .wav render. Obviously, I had to hear it before hand on the composition PC. I never said I make music without hearing the sound... When I copied the .flp it didn't need to be monitored, because the mixing and mastering was done already. It was time for render and release. Yeah, you can mix and master in the sequencer..who knew? |
1, That's becuase the 9600 is a better video processor incorporated in to the motherboard. It's like a higher model being used regdardless of data transfer method (onboard buss vs pci).
As you cannot get echosystem, motu, apogee, lavry or even m-audio interfaces (it's more than just a single chip working) already incorporated to a motherboard these soundcards are subtanstially better sounding than any onboard "chip" could be.
2, So to take advantage of a good soundcard you need decent speakers or good headphones and a decent listening environment. Not saying you can;t produce well on a lesser setup, but it's certainly far easier and there a point where the quality of what you;re able to hear will be limited to a certain ceiling.
3, By having a better soundcard and relative setup to support that soundcards quality level, you will be able to hear the material better
and therefore compose, engineer, produce, mix and master to a higher level, and in turn create a better final product.
But hey, what do I know? - I just work in a pro studio and have done tech support for several pro audio manufacturers...
