or how any shirt with 3 buttons and a collar is a "Polo" shirt. Ralph Lauren must be loving that shit!

Indeed.

What's wrong with that? If someone asked for an adhesive bandage, don't you think it'd sound weird?

Of course they are, but are you seriously going to walk into a store and ask "excuse me, where do you keep your collared shirts with 3 buttons"? It's a name you use to refer to something so that everyone knows what you mean. That doesn't mean I'm only going to buy a Ralph Lauren shirt though. I'll buy the one I like, regardless of brand. Same with Band-Aids, and same with Ipod.
Thinking too much about things like this is a waste of energy imo. Know the difference, but that's it. Thinking a corporation is controlling you because you use their brand name to refer to something is just paranoia.

i dont think there's anything wrong with it, where did i say that?
if anything, i was calling out the people who get annoyed by people using brand names for the actual product type. i'm pretty sure everyone says "bandaid" even the people who "hate" when other people call mp3 players an ipod.
honestly, this thread is hilarious. some of the things being posted are a little over the top.

Guys, polo shirts were called polo shirts before Ralph Lauren ever got in the business.

The shirts were originally made for tennis but became common among polo players as well.

gots
'I gots a few in my car'
after hearing a white person who speaks very quickly use this repeatedly, I'm adding it.
'meet and greet'. Holy fuck I hate this term. If you meet someone, you're obviously going to greet them. Stating that you are going to 'meet and greet' someone is so redundant.
