I <3 Geocaching! I have the app too The free app is simple and always basically functional. The $9.99 full version is worth it because you can update your finds while on the go.
But Foursquare different... it's more geo-social networking like tweeting locations visited in case you run accross each other closeby, while cometing for virtualy ownerships (Mayor) and getting badges like boyscout achievements.
