either way, they are going to most likely cart out another aging dj that has played this city more often than the expos.

I know. The problem is that some people just can't restrain from bitching and whining every time there's mention of a trance event, which isn't very conducive to lively discussions.

I look at the Toronto board and I weep.

Bottom line: We are spoiled as shit in Montreal.. Thousands and thousands of people would be jealous of our massive parties and EDM scene in general, but as is in our human nature, we're never happy with what we have.

The problem is that there are not massive that actually have house music anymore. Wouldn't you be pissed if your musical taste were not represented at all ? The problem is not trance, the problem is the lack of something else than trance. and NO I do not think David Guetta or Yuckie is house, that's like saying Edward Maya is Trance !

@Sharik: It's not bitching and whining. It's called voicing an opinion. The fact is that Black&Blue was the last massive to be all about house (even though that covered quite a few variants). Now for the sake of money, it has been corrupted by Trance. To be able to afford that amazing Trance lineup, the House lineup is as shitty as it gets. So the BBCM is basically saying "screw you" to the House lovers that made the Black&Blue the big event of the fall for the last 19 years.
The funny thing is that when it's all said and done, the "straights" who are supposed to love the Trance room won't go because it's a gay event and the "gays" will go to the competing event where even though the DJs suck, it will be more fun and all about house.

For the sake of money? What other sake should it be for? It's show business, and without the business, there is no show. Last year's numbers were far below expected even though many were pleased with the lineup. You can hypothesize as to what caused people not to attend, but you can't blame the organizers for trying to keep the event profitable.

I think that's reading a bit of negativity into it, although obviously they did drop the ball on the house bookings.

One thing's for sure, it will be interesting to see how their decision to change up the event plays out. It's just sad that this happened on the 20th anniversary event imo.

previous line ups...

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_%26_Blue

we can almost say there is a resident team thing going on...

black and blue is not about dj names.

it's about one wicked party...

i find they made an error last year booking sasha and digweed... not worth it. but only my opinion here...

i'd book dave seaman again if it was my call. but i guess they'll find another big name to try to please you.

edit: i'm talking about the house room here. trance room is perfect and the trance crowd is hyped as hell and will show up in large numbers. So will the gay crowd for house room.

@Fran666: Thank you for reminding me of previous year's lineups, but unlike many "virgins" here ;-) I've been going to the Black&Blue since 1992 (although I didn't go about 3 times). It's very easy to look up back on the names and say those weren't a big name DJ, but for the gay crowd, those were the DJs they were listening to back then. I do agree with you, however, that it would be great having Seaman back, as he was my favorite DJ last year and the year before.

I do agree with you in that no one is critizicing the Trance room lineup. It's stellar.

Let's be realistic. It's as much about the party as it is about the music unless your're loaded with alcohol or pharmaceuticals. I've mentionned this back when Stereo was having their surprise DJ nights. Some DJs (as good as they can be) just shouldn't play certain events or at certain hours.

@ WittyHandle: So unless my opinion is positive, I'm whining ? Are you american by any chance ? ;-) You have a twisted definition of "freedom of speech".

However, I do agree they dropped the ball this year, especially when you compare it to the Trance room.

Also when I mentionned "for the sake of money", there was a reason. Let me refer you to the first line of the wikipedia link Fran666 provided. The Black&Blue is a benefit. The goal is not to make a profit but raise money. There's a distinction.

happydude72, just wanna add that you are wrong thinking that all the effort was put in the trance room... it's just organized by different people to cater to a different crowd... louis is bringing a tested and approved night (tranceformers) to this massive with the unique goal of

1. pushing tranceformers night at circus and its djs
2. make b&b even bigger.
3. he loves trance.

Cudos to him to have convinced bbcm with hard work and results, making his vision reality.

long story short, put the money were the mouth is. it will work if you do or you wouldn't. lol
