Yeah it helps at the start. I learnt to beat match with two copies of the same record. BUT as soon as you move beyond the beat matching stage you have to deal with records of differing BPM's so your method would be flawed there.
Also Producers creating tracks of the same speed inhibits their creativity. But saying that, if you listen to most tunes by the same producer they tend to be of similar BPM's anyway, only about 1-3 BPM difference.
EG- Ferry Corsten under the Gouryella, Ferry corsten, Veracocha etc names typically makes tunes around the 137 to 140 BPM mark. But when he changes Genre i.e 'Punk' or some of his works under the Albion name he gets a bit slower 135- 137. All of these are easily mixable for an average DJ.
