Breakbeat -> It's a totally different genre with several sub-genres. Its most important characteristic is the beat: in the beginning, producers used to play breaks from soul music (the "amen") and later some people decided to produce a similar beat using ordinary drum machines. Amongst the sub-genres you can have:

c'mon maaz...be more specific for the dude asking the question.

the AMEN break has been hijacked and is still used in jungle and drum'n'bass sets. Kool Keith Herc is really the one who started the breaks thing yet he rarely gets credit. Breakbeat is it's own genre and is used in many genres, trance, house and others. Breakbeat is now being headed by Adam Freeland, Rennie Pilgrem, Tayo, Hybrid, Koma and Bones, Ils, Evil9, Lee Coombs, James Lavelle, Meat Katie and the amazing plump dj's. That's the uk breaks scene basically. You got the aussies, phil k and nubreed and some others.

www.marineparade.net (is adam freeland's label, has some sets to download)

Florida has it's own breaks scene

tho I don't know much about it, really only the names
