It is tough but from experience, it takes perseverence, a good support group and a real positive frame of mind to get past it. Sure i still have my times in situation where i get very anxious but having dealt with it for 2 years all of a sudden, im not scared of it, im not going to let it dictate, what and what i dont do. Its not a matter of fighting it but putting it all into perspective. Whats the worst that can happen when u have an anxiety attack? Its funny cause what made me depressed was having these anxiety attacks which at one stage got so bad i had pretty much locked myself in a room.

When u go through such traumas at a young age like most of us do, ull find we lose our invicibility when we are young and grow up as a person much quicker than others at same age. U also learn who ure real mates are not just acquantances. Yes ive been through my share of fucked up times. BUt now being hopefully way beyond that, i see it as a learning experience, an experience that has not only strengthened my character, but has built me as an individual, an individual who is proud of himself and who doesnt look at this as a disiablity but as a blessing, a blessing that in due time, will help find who u are as a perrson and where u want to be heading.

your post made me smile.

my situation is a bit different. the depression came first and the anxiety is recent. i have to disagree about asking what is the worst that can happen because of the attack, though. for me, it is preventing me from doing my job and i have been unable to do any work for weeks. and now i am afraid to go out, even to the gym. fortunately my job provides free conseling and it is so bad i am at a point where i will call them even as scared as i am becuase my life is becoming out of my control.

Heheh i think my post came out a bit wrong im not trying to say that anxiety attacks are petty cause they are far from that and im sorry if i came out like that. Cause i like u at one stage, could not work, could not get out of my bedroom from the fear of anxiety. But what i was trying to get at was that u got to think positive, that right now u cant see it, just like i couldnt see it, but a lot of good will come out of ure experience, be it as bad as it was. Ive told my mates id rather break my leg another 10 times, then go through that 6 months hell i had to go through. Its very tough and unless u been through it u cant understand, and i understand first hand how tough it can be, but my only advice i can give u is chin up, just think positive, and dont put urself down, cause the bottom line its not your fault, and the minute u accept it that its not ure faultm the closer u are to recovery.

Butterfly i wish u all the best and if u want a chat just jump on msn [email protected], and feel free to chat, sometimes its good just to get things off chest!

Just read that, quite an insightful read.

My only comment is based I wish it didn't put as much on religion as it does, coz for the non-religious like myself (and i dare say a few others on here) it seems a bit....meh.

Don't get me wrong, congradulations on getting through what reads to be a VERY bad period in your life. I'm glad you've used what it's taken to get you through such times.

butterly, i wouldn't HOPE to make an appointment with a doctor. I would just DO IT. The earlier you decide to get hope, the faster you will be rid of your problems. In fact, i would take a day off of work/school and make that call. Day off? yes. The day you make that cry for help, it could be very stressful because now your life is about to change. You may also feel negative feeling that you are "crazy" or "loonie" or other negative responses. Then take the day off on your day of appointment to get help. Never hold back. Even if you feel you are about to cry in front of the doctor, NEVER be embarrassed. As i wrote in the document, some people break their arms and need a doctor, and some of us have distorted visions of our lives and we TOO need a doctor. I would really really like to see you make that call for help, because only then would i realize that i've helped at least one person find an answer

I have a question...May be off topic here, or might relate to a lot of you. All these people who suffer from depression/Anxiety attacks, did u ever take or still take ecstacy??? Just wondering...What the correlation might be, if most people here who are depressed have taken ecstacy or not.
For I too suffer and have suffered from horrible panic attacks, and I am probably at one of the most depressed states I have ever been.

Oh yeah..DJ Slain ur advice is great..I haven't had a chance to look at ur link yet..But I am graduating next year hopefully(with a medical/psychiatry degree) and I def agree. I started studying Psychology to basically help myself at first. Somehow even with all the knowledge I have, I am at one of my hardest times, I actually went to a Doctor here in Brazil and cried my eyes out...I'm really sensitive with what I feel, but I don't normally cry. This week, I have been like Niagra falls, and seeing that Doctor was quite a relief, just a small step in a long process i beleive. Keep up the good work on helping everyone out.
Its crazy but depression can be the most intense and bizarre things that can happen to you. It can get soo bad that you can'tpossibly beleive other people feel or have felt what u are feeling..Its pretty scary at times..Anyways I could go on about this for hours...
Cheers to everyone who has commented and helped

i was VERY close to trying ecstasy as an answer to my problems. From my deductions, Paxil and Prozac and all those drugs release Seratonin, which makes u feel "high" and controls mood swings. I had plans to take 1 ecstasy pill. I never intended to take it ever again for the rest of my life, just down one pill. I told this to certain people and i got mixed responses. People said yes it's a great drug to make u feel happy. Others told me it was the steroids of psychoanalysis. I was hoping take X, and train my mind to be social, which was one of the key reasons i was depressed, very shy and socialphobic.
I ended up not taking it. This may be VERY silly, but when i heard that PVD made an anti-drug commercial, the idea flew out of my mind. I may not be a Starfox, but i think paul van dyk is a great guy on the inside, whether u like his music or not.
In all, i'm still confused about ecstasy. I would personally not motion anyone to take ecstasy if they have psych problems, but at the same time, i never found out the results. All i can say is that i was successful without drugs like ecstasy.

Actually DJ slain, its good u didn't take X. In my opinion it def. causes depression and anxiety in the long run. As u can see most ppl that have used it suffer from depression or anxiety..Thats why I was wondering how many people fall into this category. X releases Seratonin, thus depleting your neurons with that specific neuro-transmitter. Paxil, and Zoloft, or Prozac..Whatever u mentioned are SSRI's(Seratonin Re up take Inhibiters.
