Any one who volunteers to take a bullet for their country should be granted all the freedoms of being an adult. Maybe we can do something about this. About the only good thing about the Repubs being in control of both House and senate is that they might support the abolishment of the law that coerces states to adopt a 21 drinking age. Remember when the speed limit used to be 55? That's because they passed a similar law that coerced states to adopt that as the speed limit by witholding funding. They abolished that law, and now you can drive 60-70 or more in some places.

You can see how we did make a difference in the Rave Act legislation by getting support from such senators as Kennedy and Leihey. Of course with that sneaky maneuvering of Biden's, not many would have voted against the Amber Alert Bill; It passed because of that trickery.

I'm just saying man....when people make noise, politicians listen. That's what MAdd did, and that's what we can do. MADD is about prohibition these days anyways, and not just about fighting drunk driving. At the very least, maybe we can get someone to sponser a bill that lets people of any age in the military buy liquor etc. I think that would be great, because it makes me angry to see all those US soldiers die who are like 19 years old. I hope that we have no more wars in the near future, but maybe we can make some good come out of this. My dad used to be able to buy beer when he was 18 or 19 in Texas.

Dave

P.S. Guys....

If we can get some restaurant/catering/party etc organizations behind this, we can get some more clout.

I guess nobody cares though.

Well, I know that but most of the people aren't really "underage" to begin with because they are like 20. I'm not talking about 13 year olds or something. Who is for 13 year olds drinking lol??

i think if you are old enough to handle adult resposiblities (i.e. voting, military, etc.) you should be old enough to enjoy adult freedoms (drinking, gambling). Who gets to decide how mature is mature enough? If people can't handle it, it's their own responsibility. Let them learn from their own mistakes.

Im tired and too lazy to read the whole post, but my thought is that its ridiculous that you can go get killed in the military, vote, and buy cancer sticks at the age of 18 but cant buy a damn drink.

Yeah, I've read a bit about China. The gov just decided to let cultural traditions dictate the alcohol policy. Makes sense to me. US is a young country, and still unsure about itself in many ways.

I'm too lazy to retype. If you want to argue with me, you can post in either thread. This one is probably better, because the issue is off topic in the other thread.

Brief summary: Generalizations about a category of individuals are insufficient justification for laws which deprive people of their individual rights. Hence, age-based alcohol laws are insufficiently justified, as their fundamental premise is a generalization about an age group (minors), and these laws deprive people of their individual rights.

I was going to post it in the political discussion, but I thought it would be better here because it would get more views.
Of course most people come to the chillout room to read bloody dick stories I think.
