well, I'm sorry I'm not adding anything to the subject, but I was like that too in the beginning... I started posting threads a short time after I joined, but I mostly hung out in the DJ forum, and it took me quite a while to actually start interacting with people here.... now I browse almost every forum in TA, post like crazy, even if the post is just "lol" and/or smilies..... I actually interact...
for example, I wouldn't be writing this post if I didn't have the confidence in here that I have today...

TA is my first furom expirience (even before the AG message boards...)
and I must say it has been a great expirience so far...

Lots of "n00bs" have used other forums before, so they're a little more mature in terms of that "netiquette." With these people, the only way you can even tell that they're new is by the "tranceaddict in training" label under their name. However, some people act downright ignorant and annoying, and their newness is a very strong reason for it. Imagine going to a coffee shop with a few friends and having a polite conversation, then having some total stranger sit down at your table and start shouting at you about you're a total asshole and you're making no sense. Even if you are a total asshole and you aren't making any sense, it's still totally inappropriate!

N00bies are the ones that hop on the bandwagon when they see someone else get flamed, in a pathetic attempt to gain favour with the "winning team" because they have no other friends. They're the ones that post threads that have already been posted 10,000 times because they can't find the "search" button. They're the ones that seem to think they know everything about anything despite their arguments making no sense at all. They're the ones that get into heated personal battles with people they've never even met.

Lots of new members don't act like this, and lots of old members do act like this. But I think you're more likely to find that behaviour coming from someone who's new - mainly because the typical "n00b" (as described above) tends to stop posting after a few weeks because everyone hates them. However, some of them just don't give up... the answer to this, my friends, is atomic wedgies.

Anyway, bottom line is that the word n00bie refers to someone's behaviour and not the age of their membership. However, it's based on a stereotype of new members that has proved true in many cases. Most new members don't get flamed, but most "n00bies" do. We were all new once, and I'm sure a lot of us acted dumb - I know I did, and still do sometimes!

Okay, all the time...

Purrrrrfect example (name deleted to protect the guilty):

quote:
omg nutman...

i have yelled at you before for your obvious misconceptions about a TA's heart condition, but now you have outdone yourself once again...

do you know anything about neurology??? I have studied it for over 4 years now along with other anatomical sciences in pre-med...so please if you choose to talk out of your ass, make sure the subject is exotic enough that others haven't had the opportunity to study the field in MEDICAL SCHOOL. you dumb, ugly boy.

Person is question has posted maybe 6 or 7 times on this board, every time a flame. Person in question has never met anyone from this board. This is a true n00bie.
