And those 4 store clerks must have been on crack if they think that techs 1200 will outperform HDJ1000 and especially to tell you that after awhile, the HDJ1000 will become uncomfortable, WHAT???? I would sure like to try what ever the fcuk they were smoking, must have been some good dank!

forgot to mention i did actually try them on at a later date.. which was why i was glad i didnt buy them online

You're the first person to imply that HDJ1000 aren't comfortable and you're one of very few ppls that didn't like them.

Don't get me wrong, I was just very surprised. Myself working in ProAudio field, the first thing I hear is how the HDJ1000 are the most comfortable headphones, second thing I hear is how much lighter the HDJ1000 are then other headphones, and third thing I hear is how much louder yet crystal clear and sharp sounding the HDJ1000 are.

Bah. Those Sonys, been there, done that. The sound quality is shyte from that 'phone, especially for the $100 to $150 USD price that you'd be paying for it. And someone mentioned that it'll break even with very light use. On top of that, I'll say that it's heavy, uncomfortable and unbalanced (as in the V700 won't stay on my head, as it'll fall off if I tilted my head up or down even slightly).

I truely haven't heard the Pioneers - but I don't want to listen to any DJ headphones anytime soon either, because I don't DJ, but rather listen to music seriously for long lengths of time.

May I suggest these:

These headphones are an ideal choice for the professional recording engineer recording classical music.

Exceptionally natural, spatial and accurate sound
Detachable OFC copper cable, Kevlar-reinforced, with very low handling noise.

Hehe, I already own a pair of those. Those are the 'phones that make me want to upgrade my amps and perhaps my sources and cables in order for them to sound their very best. And an even bigger strain on my 'wallet'.

i've used both the tech headphones and i own the hdj1000s, and i can honestly say WTF!!! where those people at the store telling you!
the technics are good, but the pioneers are waaay better, and so much more comfortable!

i spend hours and hours a day spinning, many times up to 6 hours, and not once have i felt the slightest discomfort of the phones. they're not heavy at all, and they're like heaven to wear...
plus the sound is great. with other headphones i have noticed that you have to turn your headphone volume up way more than you do with the pioneers.

seriously, listen to what the people on this thread are telling you, they know what they're talking about!

have fun with your new headphones....

well..after 6 months of loving my pioneer hdj 1000 headphones, they died on me. I was broadcasting live today and one of the headphones died, leaving only one working. I check to see wtf happend and the lil plastic piece that holds the ear cup, the wire in it, snapped in half, and was being held by the lil strands int he wire. Im really pissed and i dont know if i should send em in and wait 3 monthjs or so for pioneer to fix em or just buy a new pair. I can't believe 160 dollar headphones just break out of the blue like that.
