i guess, but it's the self esteem that gets lost. |
Dude i dont want to diss u man, but to get known and to be heard u have to start off with the shit gigs, im sure tijs, armin and the likes all did their share of house partys and debs etc. So 2 me the attitude that u have is one that tells me of a guy not gonna get far imo wheres as matt_a seems to want to do the shit work, while still containing his dignity with some nice tunes, and being wiser for it. To me it displats an ability as a dj to adapt to diff crowds obviousle u enjoy playing to no crowds

That's me in the corner, That's me in the spotlight, I'm Losing my religion, Trying to keep up with you ,And I don't know if I can do it, Oh no, I've said too much,I haven't said enough, I thought that I heard you laughing, I thought that I heard you sing, I think I thought I saw you try.
But that was just a dream, That was just a dream, But that was just a dream, Try, cry, why try? That was just a dream ,Just a dream, just a dream, Dream

i agreed with all you said until i reached this line. thought it a lil harsh. when i see somebody in the booth, i see two reasons which may have initiated his being there. either love for the music, or the love as an entertainer. the best dj requires both, so that he's able to not only share his passion for, but share THE music itself. When I play, obviously in the bedroom, i have yet to think about crowds, but its not to say i wouldn't want them. at the moment however, its been primarily about the music. when you choose to play a gig which isn't your style, you choose to compromise who you're playing for. yourself? or for others? an entertainer [note: not emphasized in a degrading nor derogatory manner] wouldn't have a problem in adapting, cause he adores that box office seat.
while to some extent, i see psygnosis's point of view, i do think he's a lil too quick to brush $500 = 25 records off. since atm, it's jus been about the music, therefore purchasing only the music i like, the only fear that'd drive me not to take such a gig, is the lacking of the right "party substance" in my box. not because i dont enjoy playing to crowds. atm, its just priority, espesh with such limited funds.
matty is doing it the right way though. so definite kudos. he's playing all the house/school parties his style!

yeh i guess everyone is right, but take into consideration that this was offered in November 2002, i was only a amatuer DJ then so the fear of screwing up the set put me back a little bit, but i know if i was offered the job now i would do it. This goes towards the same reason why i havent sent out any demos yet to clubs, the fear of me screwing up, and i know i have stage fright but i know i can overcome this. MichaelDudikoff, your right, but if you were in my situation then you would understand, me only having DJed for less than year doesn't give me enough confidence yet but another month of practise then i'l send out demos to altitude and stuff. BUT as i said, if i was offered a DJ job at a school parties, disco, formal etc then i would accept it.
